"Lloyd Of The Street"
It’s funny how the first time we all laid eyes on this young buck, he was meeting Ashanti on the “Southside”, and now he’s already released his 2nd album. At first, I was thinking that this boy was at least 23, but to my surprise he’s actually kind of young (20). With that, being barely legal and having his second album #2 on the US charts this boy, I mean young man, has a lot to sing about.
Lloyd starts his album out like most; with an “Intro”, which wasn’t half bad. I can dig it. Next is his hit single “You” featuring yours truly, Weezy F Baby, (Please say the baby!) I’m sure you all heard it. I’m really feeling “Certified” because it’s just plain hot for some damn reason! Though he could have left out that little rap he tried to throw in there. If you liked “Certified”, you probably wouldn’t mind “I Don’t Mind”. That beat sounds a little like Timbaland’s old stuff, meaning with those weird sounds in it. A good dance record though. Running up close behind is “Get it Shawty”. What can I say? It sounds like some beat Ciara didn’t want and gave to him. He’s basically talking about what females usually do in the club: grind! Oh, did I mention he tried to rap again? I can’t say I was really feeling “Incredible”. It just doesn’t grab me like I thought it should. “Valentine” sounds like something Michael Jackson made a few years back. It’s not bad, but not all that either. Hmmm, “Hazel”; Just another “Girl, I never met a girl like you before, you so fine, you gotta be mine” type of joint. Surprised? Nah, next! “Players Play” is basically begging his girl for forgiveness for being a player. Now, how did I see this coming? Towards the end of this song, sounds like something Usher has done. Not a bad song, though. It has a lot of feeling in it. Now, “Killing Me” is doing what it’s title implies; killing me! It’s not that it’s a horrible song, it’s that the beat sound like “I’m going to listen to Cassie ‘Me & U’, oh wait! What the hell is this?!” And the way he sings the hook sounds like Ludacris’ song “Diamond In the Back”. Once again, not hating, just stating facts. Ok, now he’s starting to sound like his self again with “Take You Home”. Of course he’s talking about taking some chick home and working the left, the middle, and the right. Get it shawty! “What You Wanna Do” has a sexy kind of feel to it. I’m feeling it. Another mild tempo ballad from ya boy, “Streetlove” is aight. It’s not spectacular or anything. “One for Me” is pretty cool. I’m not mad at it. He sampled that old song from way back. If only I can remember what the hell was the name of that song. And finally, the remix of “You”, “I Want You”. It’s a great change from the original which I grown tired of. It’s more laid back and it features Andre 3000 and Nas. How could anyone not like this song? Great remix, man!Bottom Line:
It wasn’t a bad album at all, though I didn’t agree with some of the songs he put on it. It’s still a pretty hot album. I was intrigued by the samples he chose to use for some of his songs. Good job, Lloyd!
