The Numbers Game: Beyonce Is #1 + Big Sean, Curren$y, & More

So Beyonce‘s new album grabbing the #1 spot on the charts this week is no surprise. 4 is King B‘s 4th #1 album selling 310,700 copies in it’s first week. Is it a flop or a win for Mrs. Carter-Knowles? It’s not the debut numbers Gaga had a few weeks back, but B didn’t sell her album for $.99 either. I Am…Sasha Fierce, her album before this, sold 483,177 in it’s first week but then again 4 is #1 in 14 different countries. Either way, I’m sure we will see more promo push from Beyonce.

Big Sean finally made the charts as his album Finally Famous sells around 87,300 and debuts at #3. Seeing as Sean doesn’t really have a huge radio hit right now, I think the figures are great. [Check out our review for Big Sean’s Finally Famous right here]

One of the hardest working men in Hip-Hop, Curren$y, releases yet another album with Weekend At Burnie’s. For his first project since signing with Warner Bros., Spitta sells 22,600 albums and debuts at #22. Not bad but I’m sure we’ll see another release from Curren$y this year. The collaboration album from Pete Rock & Smif-N-Wessun debuts on the charts this weeks with Monumental at #110 and sells 5,000 units. Duck Down continue to show people how to sell records independently. Unfortunately, I was on tap to review this album; that’s not gonna happen now. Sorry.

Big Sean isn’t the only XXL Freshmen to release an album this week as Kendrick Lamar releases his latest project Section.80. The digital release sold around 5,000 copies. To put how good these numbers are for a K. Dot, he only releases this album on the July 2nd (A Friday) which didn’t even give him a full sales week. No review for this album yet, but it’s coming.

I’m not that familiar with Shabazz Palaces other than they hail out of Seattle and Ishmael Butler, from Digabal Planets, is supposedly a part of the group. Either way, it’s very interesting stuff and they have some following as their album Black Up sale 2,900 and land at #175.

Note: As of now, I can’t find any sales figures on albums from Lil’ B, Freddie Gibbs & Statik Selektah, or Dom Kennedy. When I do, I’ll add that info here.

Updated: Okay, I added the numbers for the albums by Lil’ B, Freddie Gibbs & Statik Selektah, & Dom Kennedy but for now I don’t have any chart placement (Fore example: Dom Kennedy’s album sold more that Kendrick Lamar’s so he should be ahead of him). Of course when I get that info, I’ll add it.
