Read: The Dog Years

A couple of weeks ago, I came across a comic book entitled The Dog Years. Since I’m a comic book head from way back (Is that really surprising?), I’m happy to say that I was pleasantly taken aback as to how dope the book was. And even though nappyafro.com is mainly a music site, our slogan does go “Hip-Hop Reviews & More”; this is the “More” part.

Written and drawn by artist Drayonis, The Dog Years is not your average cape & cowl comic book. Matter of fact is not a superhero book at all. The Dog years mainly revolves around the relationship between the over planning/over prepared Jalissa and trying to do right Trey. While the couple and their relationship is the heart of the book, The Dog Years sports a good supporting cast. From the comedic stories about the consummate player Rasheed to Alexus’ speech of an ideal man having the “Three D’s”, all the characters seem to be fleshed out and hilarious (The “Giblets” character had me rolling). All this plus good art and make The Dog Years a good read whether you’re into comic books not. The first 6 issues are out right now and are available to be read online at the official site TheDogYears.com. But if you like what you see and you should go ahead and purchase the trade paperback (Hey support good comics).

Below is the first 3 pages from issue #1:
