Like I said on Episode #36 of Watching Movies & Shit, The Land is a film that needs to be seen this year. Steven Caple Jr.’s feature film debut is a coming of age tale about four friends from Cleveland drenched in reality and moral values worth checking out. Not only is the film executive produced by Nas, the soundtrack was released through Mr. Jones’s Mass Appeal and is one of my favorite recent soundtracks along with Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World and Beyond The Lights.
The first visual from the soundtrack is “Goodbye” by Ezzy, who plays Boobie in the film and is produced by Rafi Ravon, who plays, Pattycakes, in the film as well.
“Ezzy takes a stroll down his neighborhood and says goodbye to his life struggles in a “letter to the hood”.
Produced by Rafi Gavron, the song’s motivational energy pairs perfectly with Ezzy’s positive message.
“Goodbye is a love letter to the neighborhood and the struggle. It has the classic hip hop vibe with fresh lyrics. Ezzy wrote the perfect song for the film, we wanted that feel-good energy that lifts people’s spirits. So to be able to direct the video and collaborate with Ezzy and Rafi, who produced the track in a closet of a hotel, was special. As we share it with the world it becomes an open love letter.” — Director Steven Caple Jr.
