A week ago rumors were stirring that Lil’ Wayne retired and it was basically attributed to a cryptic tweet sent out by the man himself. Wayne even got support for peers like Chance The Rapper and Kendrick Lamar. And seeing how fans still are waiting for Tha Carter V and his continued trouble with his label Cash Money, it’s not that far fetched. But you know what? Lil’ Wayne is not retired after all or at least according to his new song, “Grateful”. In his own words: “And tell the press I’m not depressed, I just had the press reset”.
Over soulful and gospel inspired production by StreetRunner & Rugah Rahj, Weezy raps about starting a new chapter, having love for his enemy, and not being associated with Birdman anymore (“You don’t see Stunna right next to me/And I won’t see Stunna write checks to me”). Even though this is mostly “Auto-Tune Weezy” and it contains a verse from Gudda Gudda, but I still don’t mind this.
