The history behind the chart-topping group The Temptations is phenomenal. For those that missed out on the 1998 mini-series based on their rise and fall, you missed out on the incredible saga (Leon became a legend after his performance as David Ruffin). Dennis Edwards joined the group in 1968 to replace David Ruffin as lead. He would later join a supergroup with Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks, another former lead Temptations singer, after being fired for the third and final time in the late 80’s.
In 1984, during his second departure from the quintet, Motown records his debut solo album. The title track, “Don’t Look Any Further”, became a hit and has been sampled by Junior Mafia, Tupac, Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Aloe Blacc, Z-Ro, Jeezy, and even Mary Mary. Dennis Edwards passed on February 1st this year, 2 days before what would’ve been his 75th birthday. Rest In Peace, Dennis Edwards and thank you for your music.
