This past weekend I witnessed yet another lame NBA Slam Dunk Contest. Okay, it wasn’t all that bad. But I think it’s unanimous that this contest is getting weak. After watching, I needed a reminder of why the Slam Dunk Contest was exciting to me as a kid. One thing/man comes to mind: Anthony Jerome “Spud” Webb.
Yea, you heard me, Spud Webb. The 5’7”Atlanta Hawk who in 1986 shocked the world by becoming the shortest player to win the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. This dude was doing 360’s! Even today that shit is crazy! The atmosphere, the surprise, even Jordan on the sideline with that 80’s style hat was enjoyable. Spud even defeated Dominique Wilkins (One of the best dunkers ever!) to win the contest. So anyway, as a gift from your boy, I ask you to bask in the power of YouTube and enjoy (and relive) the phenomenon that is Spud Webb.
