Favorite Wrestler of 2014: Daniel Bryan
I really wanna to give this one to Luke Harper because I love that Luke got a singles push this year. Plus we didn’t get much of the Bearded One this year due to injury. But the fact remains no one had a better build up and Wrestlemania moment than ol’ Goat face. Daniel Bryan is the only wrestler who makes me go back to being the 10 year old who would cry and fight you for saying wrestling was fake. Mr. Indy defeated Evolution all my himself at Wrestlemania 30 and forever cemented himself amongst the greats.
Favorite PPV of 2014: NXT Takeover: R Evolution (December 11, 2014)
As great as Wrestlemania 30 was, there wasn’t a better constructed show this year than R Evolution. All the matches made sense. All the stories fit. Things had clear finishes that either clearly ended stories or made logical progression. And boy what a hell of a match.
Favorite Match of 2014: Sami Zayn vs. Adrian Neville (NXT Championship Match at NXT Takeover: R Evolution)
From an in-ring perspective, I liked Zayn and Cesaro’s 2 out of 3 falls match. But nothing compared to the story that Zayn and Neville where able to tell. Talk about a slow build. Time and time again Zayn came within a hair of winning the strap or proving his worth (see Cesaro feud). His homie told him he wasn’t ruthless enough to do what it took to win, cheating on their second match. And then at the end Zayn was presented with a true test of character. It was like a Greek tragedy casted by Shakespeare, even it was put on in the equivalent of a high school gym. The match was just a beauty to watch and was basically a clinic in how to put on a great match.
