Favorite Wrestler of 2014: Tyson Kidd

2014 was the year that a wrestler turned a demotion into a promotion. Tyson Kidd went down to NXT and found his career. And God bless him for it. In a year of good heels, the wrestler also known as Nattie’s Husband broke out all the heelish tactics take make you love that you sometimes want to punch him in the face. Fact: Tyson is a jackass to his wife. Fact: He’s a douche that wears headphones to the ring. Fact: He sometimes wears cats on his kneepads. I’m not even mentioning that he’s one of the most technical wrestlers in WWE. And don’t even get me started on his pairing with Cesaro late in the year. 2014 is the year that the last student of Stu Hart’s Dungeon finally started to get some shine.

Favorite PPV of 2014: NXT Takeover: R Evolution (December 11, 2014)

Wrestlemania was an eventful with The Streak being beaten and Bryan finally overcoming the odds. But come on, every wrestling fan knows that WWE’s minor league put on the best event in 2014 with NXT Takeover: R Evolution. The funny thing is that it took place only 3 days before WWE’s major PPV TLC: Tables, Ladders, Chairs and Stairs and it was a stark contrast what well paced wrestling show looked like next to a bloated product with no definite direction. Plus in the future we’ll be mentioning Zayn vs. Owens in the same break as Rock vs. Austin. It could happen.

Favorite Match of 2014: Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena (WWE World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam)

I’m picking Brock beating the dog shit out of Cena at Summerslam for the pure spectacle alone. Almost half a year later, I still don’t think it has sunk it: Brock Lesnar crushed John Cena. 16 german suplexes. Cena barely getting any offense. Paul Heyman. Even Brock mocking the Undertaker was awesome. The whole match was surreal and for one moment professional wrestling once again surprised me and gave me no indication on what was next. And I loved it.
