Some people would say it wasn’t a good week in terms of album sales. For one, the soundtrack for the TV show The Descendants has the #1 spot. But at 42,000 copies sold it becomes the lowest selling #1 album since Nielsen Music began tallying up the chart rankings in 1991. Damn.
In terms of Hip-Hop we got a couple of notable debuts. Lil’ Dicky dropped his first album last week with Professional Rapper and it lands at #7. For some reason I thought he had a chance to get the #1 spot seeing that he releases YouTube videos that do a million views in 24 hours. But who said YouTube views transfer to record sales? Check back tomorrow for our of review of Dicky’s Professional Rapper.
Migos finally dropped their official debut album and landing at #11 and selling 18,000 copies isn’t that bad considering that most people thought Yung Rich Naton was a mixtape. I feel like Migos missed some opportunities because they put a lot of their hits on mixtapes instead of albums. Check out our review of Migos’ Yung Rich Nation here.
Other Notes:
- Future is still doing his thing. DS2 held down the #2 for two weeks straight and before that he had the #1 album. #FutureHive
- Drake‘s If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late (legit) goes over the million mark in sales.
- It was a bitch finding the album sales figures for Jill Scott‘s Woman which seems weird since it was #1 last week.
