Ever since I heard the song “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” back in college, I’ve been checking for new music from the creators of that sound. Tame Impala, a five man band headed by lead vocalist, writer, and producer Kevin Parker, released their second studio album, Lonerism back in 2012. In the three years since then, the boys from down under have released trippy, creative visuals (sans the band) like “Mind Mischief”, made a cover of some people’s favorite Outkast song, and got sampled for an underrated Kendrick Lamar loosie. Over this past summer, they finally returned and delivered their follow-up, Currents, which has been popping up on end of the year lists from Rolling Stone and Consequence Of Sound.
Last week, they released the accompanying video to one of my favorite cuts, “The Less I Know The Better”. I’ve watched this video at least once a day, like I said, I like the song, but it’s something captivating about their latest music video. It could be the beautiful female protagonist, played by Laia Manzanares, or maybe it’s the familiar classic story of seeing the girl you love with someone that is not you in a very PDA manner. It could also be the use of sex and colors that make this worthy of countless rewatches. Y’all let me know what you think.
The Australian Psychedelic Rock band’s third album, Currents is on sale now.
