Welcome to 2019 and welcome back to Playlist. It’s a space where I feature songs I didn’t have time to write about previously.
I may actually have to change the name of this type of post since Short-T recently came through with a shit load of Tidal playlists. But we’ll see. Speaking of playlists, did you know we now have a nappyafro Playlist on Spotify? We do. Check that out and follow it if you haven’t already (I’m always adding songs). Spoiler Alert: The following songs are good but they do not appear on the nappyafro Playlist.
This is kinda cheating because I actually did write about the official version of Swizz Beatz & Nas‘s “Echo”. And it’s really not much difference between the DJ Scratch produced one that ended up on Swizz’s album Poison and the version Bink! recently released. Both sample The New Birth’s “Echoes On My Mind” in similar ways with Bink!’s version being more stripped down. I like both of them and can add the latter to all the other alternative and unreleased Nas music I have in my iTunes.
I most of the time keep up with the music released by Conway, Westside Gunn, and Griselda Records in general. So don’t ask me how I didn’t check out Everybody Is F.O.O.D. 2: Eat What U Kill. I saw Conway had released the music video for “Fentanyl” and immediately downloaded the whole project. I’m still in the middle of listening to Everybody Is F.O.O.D. 2 but so far it’s makes me want to put on a ski mask and stab somebody, which is the desired results.
Speaking of Griselda Records. Where the hell is the R.I.P. Mean Gene song?
D’Angelo doesn’t drop new music very often but when he does, I’m usually into it (He has two songs on the already mentioned nappyafro Playlist). So when I saw that the released “Unshaken” a week or so ago, I checked it out. Then I realized that it was the song from Red Dead Redemption 2. That’s weird right? A new D’Angelo song in a western video game. I’m not complaining because I love that game and I like “Unshaken”. I’ll take it.
