It’s been over a year since I did one of these posts, so you know what that means right? I have a backlog of albums that I need to listen to and I’m gonna try to milk it for content. The Album Backlog column is back it’s time to clear the queue of unlistened to projects that are sitting in my iTunes Music app.

If I were to be honest, Alchemist is probably one of my favorite producers. So it’s no surprise that I check out all of his collaborative albums. Continuance is his album with Curren$y. This is Spitta and ALC’s third time linking up (Four if you count Fetti which also featured Freddie Gibbs). And for the most part, Continuance is a good listen. Would I prefer another rapper besides Curren$y rapping over these beats? Probably. That’s only because I feel that he raps the same over every beat here. That’s his style, I get it. But it gets kinda old towards the later part of the album. Come for the beats. If you like Curren$y, you like this album even more.
Notable Song: “No Yeast” (feat. Boldy James)

Here is a nappyafro Fact: Big K.R.I.T. has got two albums that received the coveted 5 Stars. Yeah, I’m not proud of it either. Plus I didn’t review those albums so there is that too. Either way, he wouldn’t get a 5 out of 5 for his latest album Digital Roses Don’t Die. It’s not a bad album. But like with K.R.I.T., something is just off. He is a very talented producer and rapper, and the album features him showing that (Especially with the production) but still, I can’t put my finger on it. Is he boring? Maybe. He is also recreating the Southern Hip-Hop sound influences from his youth with no evolution. But I won’t go into depth about that here. Either way, we always want K.R.I.T. to win.
Notable Song: “So Cool” (Only because that song got stuck in my head after I watched the music video for it)
Release Date: March 3, 2022
Did you know The Cool Kids dropped a triple album back in March? They dropped Before Shit Got Weird and a few weeks last they released Baby Oil Staircase and Chillout. I’m not gonna really talk about all of the albums, just the first one Before Shit Got Weird. I liked this album way more than I expected and it felt like 2011 all over again. You could describe the sound of The Cool Kids as retro but with a futuristic feel (If that makes sense). Not to say there aren’t any misses on Before Shit Got Weird; there definitely are. But it was more than enough for me to check Baby Oil Staircase and Chillout now. So that’s something. Also, extra points for the cool album artwork.
Notable Song: “Pick Up On Line 6”

I don’t think NBA YoungBoy has really ever been posted on nappyafro. The reason is probably that I’ve never understood the appeal of his music. I’m also old as hell so that may have something to do with it. With that said, I didn’t have much use for the DaBaby and YoungBoy Never Broke collaborative album Better Than You. It’s just not for me. Now in my defense, it feels like the way the album was recorded as well as the drama behind the project had more buzz this the actual music. Better Than You feels like it just came and went. But I guess you could say that for most music these days.
