I can’t believe that Hip-Hop and R&B are the most popular music genres in America according to Nielsen ratings. Hip-Hop being a leading factor in the contemporary culture of the country is an understatement. Why is R&B music attached to this conversation? Fans of Hip-Hop know who are the leaders of the genre: Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and J.Cole. Do we know who are the leaders of the slow jams? Bruno Mars? Beyonce? Rihanna? It’s so easy to categorize them into the genre of Pop. Being a fan of R&B culture, I can see I’m happy every time the conversation turns to the buzz surrounding a singer’s latest project whether it be Solange‘s A Seat At The Table, 6lack‘s Free 6lack, SZA‘s CTRL, and now Daniel Caeser‘s debut album, Freudian.
1o tracks, minimal features: Kali Uchis, Charlotte Day Wilson, Syd, and H.E.R; but the latest Toronto export delivers a project living up to his hype. Enjoy. Listen. Happy Labor Day!
