In today’s music world, it seems like everybody either knows or wants to know the weekly sales figures of their favorite artists. Even your everyday fan knows a stat or two about whose album went platinum or whose album flopped. Well, with today’s current sales figures steadily going down, we at nappyafro.com think it’s important to keep the people informed (While I personally think first week sales importance are way overblown, but people still wanna known. What do you do?). Welcome to our new weekly column, The Numbers Game, where every week we give you the figures of The Billboard 200 (Album Sales). Enjoy. 1. You said Trina debuted at #4…?
Man, I thought snoop woulda moved more copies! Maybe hip-hop really is dying…

  2. Wow! Those current chart readings are pretty interesting. Even though the numbers in sales for Hip-Hop are down, I think that’s a good sign especially in today’s times with the current state of music. Most of the “commercial” artists who are releasing subpar albums with no real skill or ability are flopping and aren’t selling like they thought they would. Maybe this is a sign that people are finally starting to wise up about this bullshit rap that’s a majority today and are deciding not to support that shit until better quality rap music is produced and released. I really hope that’s the sign of things to come. Hip-Hop isn’t dead or even dying, it’s being resurrected. The only thing dying is this “commercial pop-rap” and that’s definitely a good thing. I like what I’m seeing with these crap rappers not selling anything and bombing! Time to bring back that real hip-hop again.

  3. I wish it was that simple SBK. There are albums out there that are damn near classic that do horrible numbers. I think hip hop overall has become a pirate industry and it doesn’t matter how good or bad your product is, unless you come up with a strategy like Ye and fiddy, you are doomed to a ceiling of 500k being todays platinum. I mean, I found about 8 sites that had Alicia Keys cd on leak a good 2weeks to a month before it came out, but she is up there 3x platinum.

  4. Yeah you’re right about that Thic. It’s all about sales nowadays and not really based on talent or skills anymore. Lol, yeah Gold (500K) is the new Platinum today. Oh yeah I can believe that about the Alicia Keys album, but R&B had a rebirth and that’s why that genre is doing so well right now. There was a time when R&B was “dead” and Hip-Hop was the biggest genre, now it’s reversed. It’s just all a cycle though and when the time is right things will change for the better.

Yeah, you’re right about that Zin, they better do something and leave this rap shit alone. Rapping ain’t for everbody especially as a career, so they better get a trade 4real.

  5. AZ entering at 141 with “undeniable” by only moving 5744 units.

maybe he should make sing-a-long songs,
and start to dance in his videos like soulja boy.

    :-/

    copped 2 copies anyway…
