Sometimes, we don’t need many words to get the point across. Time to take the Song of the Week back to when we had those car fresheners shaped like crowns. Back to when folks smoked bidis and still rocked hoop earrings like today’s cats rock those cluster diamond joints. Back to when having a dope ride was as simple as taking that 4 foot tall, wood paneled (or papered) house speaker to the trunk of your car, and proceeding to bump the decals off the whip while playing songs like these. Yes, this weeks edition is dedicated to loud ass bass music. It’s Saule Wright if you don’t like it. Nemisis’ “Munchies for Your Bass” had that slow Southern drawl (big ups to Dallas) completely soaked in some of the deepest bass heard, even to this day (hard to translate that to MP3, find the CD…better yet a TAPE for proof). The teasing hook of “I want you, I want you, I want you yeah yeah yeaaaaaaaaaah” was ill as hell. This is probably my favorite bass track of all time. Don’t sleep on the lyrics either…“Tweedle dee, tweedle dumb, last time that we got busy / our bodies got numb / and now your beatin’ like a big bass drum…” I can go on but I’m sure that you recognize the lyrical superiority back then….okay, so I’m puttin’ on A LOT. I know those lyrics weren’t ground breaking, but that shit sure was fun.
DJ M, I’m going to get my Cross Colours hoodie out and my Jodeci boots and blast this shit until the walls cave in. Sorry neighbors….it’s just the Song of the Week!
