This is the second time I take over for Song of the Week and hopefully not the last time. Another week has passed in Hip-Hop and more great tracks are out (BAWSE! Shout out to Jerm). I don’t know about many of ya’ll, but the direction Hip-Hop has been taking has me looking forward to the future. With artists such as J. Cole, Drake, Big Sean, Jay Electronica, Fashawn and others, it’s hard for the Hip-Hop head not to be excited. This time around song of the week was actually inspired by a old track (over 11 years ago) when two new rappers hit the scene. One grew to become arguably one of the greats in the game, the other to progress and grow into his own and join a power house of a group while making his own name.
Most the world knows who Eminem is, most Hip-Hop heads know who Royce Da 5’9″ is. But do many of us know Bad Meets Evil. Before the whole Royce & D12 beef, there was Bad Meets Evil. Not much has been put out from these two under the name, save a few tracks, but what has been put out has fans raving about the possibility of future projects from the two together if Slaughterhouse signs with Shady. To most Bad Meets Evil does not exist, or maybe just forgotten (even by me). It wasn’t till I was restoring my computer/iTunes Library from a recent virus that I rediscovered Bad Meets Evil.
This cut has classic written all over it, originally found on the Scary Movie soundtrack (and rightfully entitled), this track gives every Hip-Hop fan what they really want. Reef comes correct with a simple yet perfect NY influenced beat for Royce and Eminem to murder. For Eminem fans we catch Slim Shady in full effect, the flow and lyrical style that clearly made Eminem a force to be dealt with. For Royce fans we see the potential that Eminem saw in him to become a great rapper. So enjoy another DJ LP edition of Song of the Week as I reintroduce you guys to:
