To be honest, I’ve never been really been a big Arcade Fire fan, but when I heard they were doing a half-hour short film directed by Spike Jonze and based on their Grammy-winning album The Suburbs, I was curious. Then I saw the trailer and I was more interested. For what I saw and heard, Scenes From The Suburbs seemed like the movie Kids with sci-fi elements (That’s not a bad thing). Plus I’ve always liked most of what Spike Jonze has done during his career. The film had it’s U.S. premiere during this year’s SXSW and now it’s finally online. Summary & poster below; movie up top.
A group of suburban youths. Back then, in the summer, so long ago. They couldn’t leave town because outside the country was at war and the military controlled life and all gateways. The teenagers wander aimlessly about town. Winter is a long way off. And love and longing and friendship still mean – everything.
