Top 3 Reasons Lip Lock Flopped

reason-2

2. Why are you coming back?

Her quote behind the title is: “So Lip Lock is a play on words. It sounds flirty and fun. Also, my lips are one of my favorite features. Also, it’s like, literally locking the game down with my words because I’m a lyricist. I thought it made sense for this album.”**  “We don’t believe you, you need more people.” Let’s be completely fair and honest here. Eve IS gifted lyrically. Eve DOES have nice lips. Eve is also in a genre of music that couldn’t care less about lyrics as it does the music and she proved that by the track selection on the album. Sometimes, songs relied so heavily on the music that I forgot there were words. She’s in a good place right now.

I get it, she owns her beautiful personality, is loving life and loving love. The whole Pitbull in a skirt persona has been shed for a loveable sexy young woman who is comfortable in her skin and her position in life. THAT should have LOUDLY been the focus of your return and played in the title of your album. Releasing the album on your own label, on your own terms is something so powerful, it should have been the reason you came back…a reason that is trumpeted from the highest heights. Who else is doing this successfully? What other female, right now, has the platform and buzz to announce they are coming back, have folks waiting and make such a grand statement with the backing of their own label without having to get into beef to do so? Instead, we got a much more subdued title and promo tour that “quietly” attempted to empower girls (that weren’t already on board the Barbie movement). Instead, what we got was an album that wanted to be fun and fit in instead of being a declarative statement. Folks still complain about these female artists showing skin and being high priced call girls with mics just to sell a few albums and you should proclaim “…not only is that not required, I am the proof that it’s not required.” Eve said she was coming to lock the game down lyrically, but what it seemed like she really wanted to do was just make music she enjoyed.
