Wiz Khalifa
As the intro for O.N.I.F.C. began to play, I couldn’t help but think about when I saw Wiz Khalifa perform at The House of Blues almost three years ago, before “Black and Yellow” really broke through. Since then, I have lost significant interest in his newest music. I thought I would be lost in his performance because I haven’t keep up with the latest Taylor Gang releases, but I was wrong. The first song he performed was Burn After Rolling’s “The Thrill” and I was more than happy. After “Work Hard, Play Hard”, “Gang Bang”, “Irie” with TY Dolla Sign, and an appearance from Tuki Carter, Wiz left the stage and prepared the audience for a trip down memory lane as the YouTube video of his ATL freestyle played. He returned to the stage in a Pittsburgh Pirates hat, a camo shirt and the black and yellow “P” chain he sported religiously before he first met Amber Rose and performed, “Say Yeah”. The early favorites/Kush & OJ joints, “The Kid Frankie”, “Ink My Whole Body”, “Up”, with the beautiful Courtney Noelle providing back up vocals, “This Plane”, “Remember You”, “Let It Go”, “Got Everything”, “Young, Wild, and Free”,
After Juicy J’s vocals for the chorus on “The Plan”, played, Mr. Black and Yellow announced, “I feel like bringing Juicy J out”, the building erupted. People were screaming at the top of their lungs but were disappointed when Mr. Trippy Mane would not be coming out because he was off promoting his album. Wiz made up for the disappointment by playing karaoke and letting “Show Out” play. The third act of the performance had to be the most hyped as the Taylor Gang leader effortlessly performed the fast flow for his remix verse on “U.O.E.N.O.” without messing up. His features on Sean Kingston’s “Beat It”, and Tyga’s “Molly”, followed before he brought out his last guest of the night during “It’s Nothin”. I knew 2 Chainz wasn’t coming out for his verse, so I was surprised to see Wiz’s right hand man, Chevy Woods fill in with a verse. He stayed on stage for “Taylor Gang” and was joined by the rest of the team after a great introduction. “On My Level”, “No Sleep”, “Black and Yellow”, and “Roll Up” were performed to close the show.
