Signed to Daptone Records, home of Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings, since 2002, I wished I was more familiar with the music of Charles Bradley. When I read the news of his death caused by stomach cancer last week, I did a quick YouTube search. The first song I listened to sounded really familiar; I heard it before on Stalley’s “Petrin Hill Peonies”. “The World (Is Going Up In Flames)” from his debut album, No Time For Dreaming in 2011 was sampled by the Ohio native and is a perfect description of the times we are living in now. Rest In Power to Mr. Bradley, your music will live on forever.
