J. Cole – Any Given Sunday #1 [Mixtape]

You remember when J. Cole said he wasn’t dropping a mixtape before his album, Cole World: The Sideline Story, dropped on September 27th? Well, that may have not been entirely true. Kinda. I’ll let Cole explain himself:

Every Sunday til the album drops I’ll be back with something. Maybe just 1 song, maybe a video, depending on how I’m feeling.

1. “Like A Star” – Was saving this for the 2nd album. Due to some other shit beyond my control, I’ma let this out now.
2. “Knock On Wood” – One of my fav. freestyles. OG Dreamvillains gotta be reminded, new fans gotta get put on.
3. “Pity” – Brand new J. Cole, Omen, Voli. Produced by Voli @volitheentity
4. “How High” – At one point this was guaranteed to go on The Sideline Story.
5. “Unabomber” – Just heard this today for the first time in a longgg time. Love these raps.

September 27! We almost there. Until then…

    1. That’s just what he likes, Wayne likes syrup in his cup. Cole likes album covers about basketball lol

      1. Yeah but that shit is corny, do you rap or play basketball? The album cover is important 2 me, its helps with the ambience. I think when his album comes out if the cover is a nigga holding a basketball its not gonna do as well as it could have

        1. Nigga, did you just call him corny for having theme covers but you said the “ambience” of an album you listen to on your iPod/mp3 player/in your car matters?

          1. I didnt call him corny I called the basketball covers corny, its all in your head but it definently plays into the album

          2. But NaS and Biggie have both had themed covers, are they corny? I completely disagree with your comment. Let the nigga be creative and enjoy the music.

  1. 1st of all everybody shut the fuck up, I like J Cole that dont mean I cant think the cover is ass.

And yes all rap album covers are “themed” in one way or another thats silly to say. If Nas had the baby pic on EVERY FUCKING THING HE DROPED I would call that corny to. Stop acting like im calling him ass basketball cover on a rap album that has nothing to do with basketball is stupid

    1. get into the “ambiance” of silence nigga damn. You stated your opinion, folks stated theirs. Repeating a theme is, as you call it corny, commonly called branding anywhere where folks make money. It’s not the “only” way to do covers, but it’s an accepted part of building your brand…hell, ART, that you have a theme and concept working.

Does “Any Given Sunday” work as a basketball title? eh, iono, but I’m not gonna ignore the album because a nigga is hoopin on the cover.

      1. Who said I was ignoring the album, why cant I just say that the cover is stupid. And I seriously doubt a picture of Micheal Jordan is branding at all.

        1. did you even look at the plane as it flew over your head? “basketball” is the branding, “the baby on the album cover” is branding, etc. Also, I didn’t say “you” were gonna ignore the album, I said I wasn’t.

          1. Except Nas had a picture of himself tho, u cant brand off a pic of Micheal Jordan. Its not like when people see Micheal Jordan they are gonna instantly think J Cole.

          2. are you TRYING not to understand what I’m saying? BASKETBALL is the branding in this example P from da D, BASKETBALL. When you think MJ, you DEFINITELY think basketball.

I’d take it a step further and say maybe it’s just sports to be honest. The Come Up, The Warm Up, Friday Night Lights, Any Given Sunday, yeah, there is definitely a sports theme going on there. My point is your initial comment was that it was corny to have basketball covers, and if Nas did the baby picture on each album, it’s corny. My response to that is that it’s not corny, it’s branding. Working a theme is classic marketing 101. That’s all I’m saying.

          3. So basically Cole is referencing that rap is like a sport and you gotta work and put it a lot of effort to be the best. Understand now?

  2. Any Given Sunday featuring MJ on the cover? Don’t make sense to me. Shouldn’t it be a football player?
