J. Cole – “Sideline Story” [Video]

I wasn’t feeling the last video J. Cole released. Good thing he kept things simple with his new video for “Sideline Story”. All that was needed here was footage of his European tour which makes sense when you think of the content of the actual song. Directed by Axel Laramee & Adam Roy.

  1. Am feeling the video…
On another note tho: I think Cole is losing out on a lot of exposure being signed with Hov. ‘Why dont Jay ever shout u out?’
I know its not like Hov gotta hold his hand or anything but its only right that this type of investment be reciprocal. I read that Cole had to virtually beg for a Hov verse on the Cole World album, and it came through a few days short of the deadline – and it was on the only track I sincerely dont like on that LP. I dont see any reciprocity in their relationship… On the other hand (I bet) he went running to drop a verse on that Drake track.
We all know what happened with the Roc-a-Fella empire and Jay’s days in the Def Jam office. He pretty much simply abstained from enlivening the careers of the roster of talented emcees in Def Jam at the time and spared no expense in pursuing his own ambitions.
Cole has a lot of talent. God damn it he produced the whole Cole World and most of his 3 mixtapes and the material is dope – few can disagree with that.
That same lack of interest may have been part of the reason we still waiting for a J. Electronica LP – um just sayin…
Anyway tho I just hope dude dont fall to the camel’s curse…

    1. Eddy I co-sign with you. I feel like J Cole should get more recognition. He is clearly one of the best new artist out right now. Jay-Z only out for himself which we already seen. Roc-A-Fella was a Dynasty, there was no way I thought that empire would fall off but they did. Anyway I agree with you

      1. Why do people want Hov to hold an artist hand, especially J. Cole. This is one of Jay’s biggest success stories as an executive, the other being Kanye, and he didn’t hold either of their hands.

Once a superstar like Jay starts babysitting his artist, they are destined to be looked at as his offspring, so-to-say. Look at Nicki, and Drake. Everyone goes on about how they bite Wayne’s style and it is because he was always around them and has countless amounts of music with them.

        1. DuB, I clearly said that I dont expect Hov to hold Cole’s hand or anything like that. All I do expect is reciprocity in their relationship. If an artist is signed to label X, that label does hold a certain amount of responsibility towards the artist. the artist is expected to put out the same kind of music that the label signed him for (or whatever other agreement) and the label should play its part is effectively supporting, branding, distributing and marketing the artist. That is the reciprocity I speak of.
And if Kanye didnt blow up by himself do you still think Hov would fuck with him like he does now? (should I ‘pause’ that? ‘Pause’ then). I think not. Hov all up Kanye coz he knows Kanye can help him maintain his name in this day and age. He will undoubtedly do the same with Cole if and when Cole blows up to that level.
On the other hand YMCB does a good job at supporting each other in their work. Its a branding thing, or image association if u will. I see nothing wrong with that, quite teh contrary – that is a good look. I wont get into their rhyming styles and what not coz thats another issue.
Having said that, I still stand by what I said initially.
