Three Things We Learned from WWE Night of Champions 2013

Axel-on-hold

Creative Really Likes Screwing With Curtis Axel
I had so much hope for Joe Hennig when he was repackaged as Curtis Axel and made into a Paul Heyman guy. Winning the Intercontinental Title on his father’s birthday no less at least made me think he could have an impressive, Cody Rhodes-like run with the belt. Yet time and time again he’s been made to look weak. Whether it was the wonky count out wins at the start of his push or playing second fiddle to Brock Lesnar, this really hasnt worked out the way I hoped. Nothing has been as bad as his booking in the Punk-Heyman angle. He was never made to look strong and ate GTS’s almost every time he tried to attack Punk. Worst of all, Heyman was putting over Punk more in his promos than Axel himself. With Axel losing at NOC and Ryback’s new alignment with Heyman, it looks like Axel will remain an afterthought. – GQ-Bu
