First Impressions: The 50 Best Hip-Hop Intro Tracks

14. 2Pac – “Ambitionz Az A Ridah”
Produced By Daz Dillinger ~ Album: All Eyez On Me (1996)

There is so much to say about this track that it’s almost a shame to try analyse it.

As Pac’s almost whispered tone grows louder it’s impossible not to get excited for the rest of the album. This is the ultimate intro track that no other rapper was even been able to imitate. Say what you want about 2Pac’s lyricism but his ability to evoke passion from his listeners is undeniable. Even Hov, who once claimed that there was “too much west coast dick licking” going on, pays homage to Pac by playing this song at his shows.

Drop the needle on this record and anybody within earshot knows what’s about to go down.

Memorable Lines:

So many battlefield scars while driven in plush cars
This life as a rap star is nothing without heart
Was born rough and rugged, addressing the mass public
My attitude was “fuck it”, cause motherfuckers love it
