First Impressions: The 50 Best Hip-Hop Intro Tracks

50. Outkast – “Return of the ‘G’”
Produced By Donny Mathis & Outkast ~ Album: Aquemini (1998)

Even though by the late 1990’s Outkast had put out 2 genre bending albums some critics and fans were still scratching their head about what they were hearing and that is fair enough. With each album Big Boi and 3 Stacks brought out they changed their sound up immensely to keep giving Hip-Hop that breath of fresh air it desperately needed.

But of course when something is considered avant-garde it comes with a lot of questioning which is answered right away with this album’s opener. Andre addressing those rumors while Boi states that even though they’re not gangstas and just want to make good music you can still find trouble from this ATLien.

Memorable Lines:

Return of the gangsta thanks ta’
Them niggas that get the wrong impression of expression
Then the question is Big Boi what’s up with Andre?
Is he in a cult? Is he on drugs? Is he gay?
When y’all gon’ break up? When y’all gon’ wake up?
Nigga I’m feelin’ better than ever what’s wrong with you
You get down!
