The Boondocks: Season 4 Episode 2 (“Good Times”) [Video]

Good Times

Week 2 of The Boondocks return and I’m not sure if it’s getting better or worse. I wasn’t exactly in love with last week’s episode and this week’s episode, “Good Times”, has me basically feeling the same way. It felt like they had some missed opportunities too; Shouldn’t Uncle Ruckus running for president be a whole episode instead of a 90 second flashback? But hey, there’s still some funny in this episode like The Gangstalicious Credit Card. Plus I’m still watching so that’s something.

  1. the boondocks is no longer funny imo. its like their trying too hard at one point then not hard enough at others. idk if i can watch it anymore

  2. you are aware that this episode wasn’t meant to be funny right? It had funny references, but this episode, just like every boondocks episode, is a commentary. This episode said outright that the banking and loans systems of today is just another form of institutionalized slavery.

    1. So you telling that The Boondocks, a show that in the past has both covered topics like Katrina and MLK’s death and still made them funny, isn’t suppose to be funny? Okay.

      1. Reread my comment again. I Specifically said “this episode” wasn’t meant to be funny. Please remember that the creators of boondocks are artists. if you found this episode a bit dark and not funny its because it was deliberate. The good times references should of tipped you off. It is one of the best “depressing message set to upbeat instrumentals” songs .to be honest this episode had me a little angry because Ruckus finally got to me. Also reanalyze both of those Episodes-> Katrina and MLK’S <-. Ask yourself was the Primary goal of these episodes to to get you to laugh or shed light on societal issues? the episodes are never meant to be about watching niggas wilin' out. The humor is simply a tool used to make some of the issues a little less dark (Black on Black crime, Black self hate, Homophobia in the Black community, Nutrition, and so on). This is not new, in the first season The Passion of Reverend Ruckus is another example. Oh and i didn't mean to come off as an asshole in that earlier comment. Since i know you read this maybe when you review week 3 you could do more than a Paragraph Im Feeling like this Afro could Be Nappier

        1. First off, “the creators of the boondocks” are no longer writing the show (This is the first season without Aaron McGruder). Second, there have been many shows that can make you laugh at a serious situation while not making light of it (‘Good Times’ is actually good proof of this).

Most of the time when you have make excuses for a show or give instructions on how to watch a show, it means that the show (or episode) isn’t that good. But to each his own.
