A Zip & A Double-Click: June 2014 + The Top Mixtapes of 2014 (So Far)

Other Popular1

Dizzy Wright & Bishop Nehru – BrILLiant Youth
This is an incredibly mediocre EP. This tape is full of clichés and reused flows. I am still completely unable to understand why MF DOOM (who is one of the greatest rappers ever) is doing a whole project with Bishop Nehru. (DOWNLOAD)

Young L – MVP
This is a deeply weird piece of rap music. It sounds like Young L took all of the trendy sounds in rap music, melted them down, and molded them back together into a Frankenstein of a mixtape. You can hear the influence of Future, Rich Home Quan, and Chief Keef bubbling up to the surface through Metro Boomin and Dun Deal-esque production. (DOWNLOAD)

Chris Rivers – Wonderland Of Misery 2
As it says right on the cover of this mixtape, Chris Rivers is Big Pun’s son. It sounds like he inherited some of pops’ talent (there are some tight flows and Rivers sounds right at home on the mic). But it takes more than endless fast-raps to make good songs. (DOWNLOAD)

Gucci Mane – World War 3D
These should barely even count as Gucci tapes, they are more showcases for his latest set of collaborators than they are legit Gucci Mane projects. I’m not even sure if they really are free mixtapes (you can buy them on iTunes but you can also download them on DatPiff). But I guess his team are doing all they can to keep his name buzzing while he’s locked up. This trilogy features one project with Migos (The Green Album), one with Peewee Longway (The White Album), and another with Young Thug (The Purple Album). Unless you’re a “New Atlanta” Stan I would stay far away from this mess.
