Album Sales: Chance the Rapper

With all the hype that Chance the Rapper‘s latest project, Coloring Book, received, I thought it would easily take the #1 spot on the Billboard charts. But then I realized that Chance didn’t technically sell Coloring Book.

For one, it was only available on Apple Music. And while it did’t do VIEWS or The Life of Pablo streaming numbers, it still was streamed 57.3 million times in just one week. That’s the equivalent of 38,000 album sales and is good enough for the #8 spot on the charts. Coloring Book also makes history and becomes the first streaming-exclusive album to chart on Billboard 200.

OTHER NOTES

Besides having the #1 album the country for the third week in a row with VIEWS (It sold 239,000 units this week and stands at 1,109,000 overall), Drake also recently passed Justin Bieber as the most-streamed artist on Spotify. To add to that, Dizzy’s “One Dance” reclaimed the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100. The 6 God wins again.

Beyonce‘s Lemonade is sitting at the #2 spot and sold 128,000 units; 927,000 overall.

Prince lives on as Purple Rain still sits in the Top 20 at #19.
