R&B Sunday: The Delfonics – “Hey Love”

Another March 9th has passed and as every Hip-Hop head knows that is the day we celebrate the life of the only Christopher we acknowledge. Christoper Wallace was killed on March 9th, 1997 at the age of 24, 3 weeks before the release of his sophomore album, Life After Death. To pay homage to arguably one of greatest of all time, I fired up my trial TIDAL subscription and played the final album from Biggie Smalls during my workday. Yep, it’s a classic was my first thought as “You’re Nobody (Til Somebody Kills You)” ended. One of my favorites is the hilariously, well-done parody by Big and Puffy. “Playa Hater” is a robbery spree scored by “Hey Love” from the Philadelphia trio consisting of William “Poogie” Hart, Wilbert Hart, and Randy Cain of The Delfonics.

From their fourth album, Tell Me This Is A Dream, released in 1974, the first with Major Harris replacing original member Candy Rain, here is the theme song for the alligator from “The Alligator Man” episode of season two of Atlanta. (S/O To Katt Williams. Great performance) Enjoy. Happy Sunday.
