On May 18th, 22 year old Muhlaysia Booker was shot dead and left in the street. The transgender woman was in the headlines one month ago after being assaulted by a mob as a result of a minor car accident. She is the fifth transwoman to be killed this year. I attended her wake on Memorial Day and was elated to be in a room full of Black people to give and show love to someone that didn’t see enough love from the world before her untimely demise.
In the last month, I’ve been living in the soulful sounds of Lee Fields & The Expressions. I’m sharing my favorite songs from their, It Rains Love album, including the title track and two songs that give me hope for a better tomorrow. Please don’t allow ignorance and hate to outlive people that want to live their lives in peace and happiness. Happy Sunday.
