Bashir Salahuddin and Diallo Riddle
Creators of South Side and Sherman’s Showcase
HBO MAX/IFC
Them boys good! The writing duo, Bashir Salahuddin and Diallo Riddle, were in the writer’s room for The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon for years before they branched out and created shows of their own. Last month, I binged the entire first season of the Comedy Central series, South Side on HBO Max over the course of two days after work and laughed out loud several times on my couch. Two years after its premiere and it still holds up my anticipation for the second season that will premiere on the streaming site sometime in the future.
Last June, I watched their variety series, Sherman’s Showcase on Hulu after enjoying their Black History Month Spectacular. The Soul Train parody stars Salahuddin as Sherman McDaniels, the host of the long-running musical variety that doesn’t seem to age after four decades on television. Riddle stars as Sherman’s longtime producer, Dutch Shephard, and together they handle the demands of outrageous musical guests and cast while delivering the best music show on television. Sherman’s Showcase will return this year on AMC & IFC.
While I’m looking forward to what they do next, you can catch up on their past seasons of hilarity.
