FROCAST: Episode #73

frocast-73

I think the show last week was so good, Easy and Jerm got paid to leave the Roc. They left the young black panther upstarts to do this show by ourselves. That means that yep, we get on our Huey P and bore a good part of you to death. There was a comment on our iTunes for the frocast that “…they don’t try and uplift the community…” as a GOOD thing. They want us to be entertaining instead of ranting and trying to well, uplift the community. But hey, we’re dynamic over here at the fro. One week, we talk about the problems facing our culture, and the next…we’re talking about ratchet pussy mollys. We do it all for you. So that said….GQ and I bring last weeks momentum to a halt…but it’s what we do. I blame Jerm….I always blame Jerm….except when I’m blaming B-Easy.

    1. Man I was more excited than a kid on the first day of school with a brand new outfit to do those akas

  1. I really wanted to be there to talk about Jason Collins. The nigga is a BUM on the court. That’s all that matters to me is what you do on the court/field. I don’t care about your personal life as long as you come to play on gameday.

  2. I also think Saule totally missed the point of what Scarface was saying. He wasn’t taking away from what white people have attributed to Hip-Hop, he was talking about a 60 year old white guy, who owns the record label and never loved Hip-Hop, telling a young black rapper what’s hot and maybe he neesd to be more like Rick Ross or Lil’ Wayne because that’s what sell.

    1. I think that’s a reach Easy. He said he wanted it to be as offensive as possible that they were so white and so jewish then went on to say that are putting out trash to make us look stupid while other folks are putting out amazing material. So my point to what he said is simply that the ARTIST has an option to not make the bullshit. There are plenty of black artists and brands putting out damaging shit, albeit with the help of white dollars, but just as many or more putting out bullshit because it’s “fun”. Them niggas need to have a Chappelle moment and sit back and look at what they are doing and stop trying to say it’s someone else.

Label execs have LONG stopped being interested in what was “good” as opposed to what moves money and units. We’ve talked about the same thing with a B.O.B. / Taylor Swift collab and such. That had nothing to do with Hip Hop either, but it was done to move units. So if your assertion is that they are telling us to do this and that because it’s hot, that’s universal, that’s not a race issue, that’s a cash issue. But also, even if that IS the case, there are other folks out there eatin’ without succumbing to the bullshit.

I don’t think his message was intended in concept or delivery as holistic or pure as you want it to be.

Old white folks making decisions in Hip Hop? Yeah, that happens and he clearly isn’t a fan of that. Agreed that he says that.

So white and so Jewish was clearly a shot at them being outsiders or those things being derogatory as it pertains to the culture. That’s a problem because just being white doesn’t mean that you can’t love, be a part of, or promote the culture of Hip Hop. So I disagree with him and you on that part that it was something about the purity of Hip Hp instead of being just what was said.

      1. Yea, I think if you listened to the whole statement about what Scarface said, it had nothing to do with white people contribution to the culture (I think he may have even said that), but more abou the control of the culture. I don’t think he’s has a issue with an Eminem or a Yelawolf, but the point he was trying to make was more about old white folks who are also outsiders making decision that shape what is actually put out on a major scale.

        1. Eh, didn’t get that from the youtube vid that was forwarded to me. But I’ve been wrong several times in my life.

  3. Plus, Scarface signed Ludacris to Def Jam and ran into issues when he tried to sign other rappers because the label didn’t like them and wanted a mold.

    1. That’s cool. Then my next question is what happened to those other rappers? Why didn’t he shuffle them off to other labels that would do a better job or put them out himself?

  4. Another great episode of the frocast. Props to Jason Collins for doing what he did. That was brave for him to do that. But y’all made a lot of valid points about Collins as a NBA player, in which, he ain’t shit. Also, because of him doing what he did, and I guess being compared to someone like a Jackie Robinson/even a LeBron James, IMO, some people are really going overboard with this. Interesting segment/rant about the stuff that Mona Scott said and the stuff that Scarface said as of recent, along with some of the other comparing goin on in this episode like the difference between N.W.A and Public Enemy, Love & Hip-Hop and other shows that’s out now, etc. Overall, great episode.

  5. I guess Face was saying the music is more white friendly now. There isn’t too many Freddie Gibbs and a whole lot of B.O.B’s.

    1. It would be the opposite based on what Face said. He said they put out trash and then put out great music for other guys. Gibbs ain’t trash by any means…and I think the majority of us would say that B.O.B. music is the trash in this situation, but by comparison B.O.B. is the more successful artist no?

      1. Sometimes, we gotta just hear what is being said. I think he said it exactly how he meant it. There wasn’t any inference to anything other than “old white Jewish folks pushing trash music to make us look bad while at the same time putting out better music for other artists.”
