FROCAST: Episode #81

f81-art

Follow us @saulewright @nappyafro @Basketball_Bose #frocast #fronation.

We finally get it in this week talking about basketball. Is Lebron better than Jordan? Did D12 make the right move going to Houston? How do we expect the Lakers, Heat and Rockets to do next season? All that plus someone says that Kobe isn’t a top 10 player…yeah, this episode is pretty disrespectful, but what do you expect. Oh, and excuse the audio issues…but you boys from fronation are used to that.

  1. Kobe the 3rd best player in the league right now, only behind James and Durant. No way I want Melo, Love, Curry, Westbrook, Howard or anyone else not named James or Durant RIGHT NOW. Good show though, gotta agree with the bro SW, Kendrick is winning and losing smashing Erykah, but man what a way to lose. And After Earth made over $199 mil, but is horrible and probably Will’s worse movie.

      1. Gotta be more than efficiency numbers that matter bruh. During the first few rounds of the playoffs, I’d imagine Birdman was at the top of that list, but that don’t make him the best player in the playoffs either right? Like, at no point would you have picked Birdman over Kobe during any portion of the playoffs?

        1. 1.) they have different roles on their teams. I’m not by any means saying a player like Birdman or Psycho T are better because they are more efficient. I’m comparing Kobe to other players with similar roles on their team. You can’t tell me Kobe didn’t have help, because he did. You can make the point that at any time in the season he had at least another top 20 player on the court with him.

2.) we have seen plenty of players do what Kobe did last year in losing efforts, why does he get a pass? T-Mac averaged 32 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assist with the magic and we all said the same thing, he’s a bad boy with talent but he isn’t doing what his team needs him to do to win. Listen Kobe is chasing the scoring record, not championships. He’s old and he may never be Kobe again.

          1. So based on “Kobe had help” how can you ride for D.Howard when you said that he didn’t have help and even said “fuck Kobe” to him being Howards help?

As far as no2, Kobe has been that player his entire career, the reason he gets the pass is because it netted 5 rings. Apparently he did exactly what his team needed at least 5 times. If T-Mac had a ring, then that criticism would be different.

But I hear ya, I’m not trying to make this a 90 comment back and forth, I just disagree.

          2. Kobe didn’t utilize his help. That’s why I say Fuck Kobe. If Bron had Nash and Howard on the court, would they have looked as lost as they did with Kobe?

          3. Nope, I think Lebron is a better player though. That’s not the point of my previous point though. All I’m saying is that if Kobe DID have help in the form of Nash and Howard then Howard had help in Kobe and Nash. You said earlier that Howard hasn’t had help. That’s all I’m saying. I think it’s fair to say that if Kobe is a failure for not using his team last season, then Howard is the same failure for not leading his team further as well. Bad back and all, he still was damn near even with his career average.

          4. Rashers Lewis and Chris Bosh have rings, are they better than Karl Malone? The ring argument you keep giving me is stupid!

          5. This is why I was like I was done with the convo, you are so busy reacting you’re not reading what I said. I also said I think Lebron is a better player than Kobe and HE doesn’t have 5 rings. The statement I made is that the reason “we let Kobe slide and not T-Mac” is because in relation to “Kobe isn’t doing what his team needs him to do” that’s not accurate. Kobe has been the same player doing the same thing his entire NBA career as a star. It has resulted in rings, so not only is he doing what his team needs, he’s won doing it. T-Mac has nothing to show for his stats but an inability to culminate in wins and as you said on the show, winning changes everything. That’s my point.

          6. I posted both of those before you said LeBron is better. Dwight hasn’t had help, and I’m saying that as far as the playoffs. If we are talking regular season, he has had Kobe but you can say Kobe was a detrement to Dwight developing a chemistry more than he was positive.

Kobe has been the same player but this is a different team. Michal Jordan had to play point guard in 92 (off the top of my head but it may have been 89) and he averaged 8 assist. Kobe can’t just play the same forever. Il his third best player was either Pau Gasol or Steve Nash, not Rick Fix anymore. He needed to adjust his game and he didn’t.

          7. Didn’t Kobe average the most assists he did since 2003 this season??? How is that not adjusting his game?

I don’t see how you can praise efficiency then cite somebody like Westbrook or Carmelo as a better player than Kobe, have you even looked at their numbers? Westbrook shot under 44% from the field, yet he took 18 shots a game, Melo shot under 45% (though he did shoot 3’s much better than Kobe) and led league in shot attempts. Kobe shot over 46% from the field, it just seems like you’re talking out of your ass with some of these people. The only people you could put over Kobe and have a legitimate argument for are Lebron, KD, Tony Parker, and Chris Paul.

Do you really read stats or do you just skim through em?

          8. I don’t think it’s fair to compare Bosh or Lewis to Karl Malone when Malone was the number 1 option on his team. The ring argument should only be used to compare players with similar roles who have comparable skill levels.

  2. Great episode of the frocast. The sports segment crazy and interesting. VERY interesting. Some of the things that was said I couldn’t believe was being said. Some of it I agree and some I don’t. About Dwight Howard now going to Houston, we’ll see how long that’ll last. The music segment was great. I might have to agree with Saule about Kendrick Lamar winning and losing for smashing Erykah Badu. The new Jay-Z album is dope. Also, I’m a fan of both Jay-Z and Nas, so whatever’s being said about Jay’s new album and Nas’s Life Is Good album, it doesn’t matter to me. IMO, both of their albums are dope. I can’t stand some people/idiots that say there are no more good music out right now. Why is it so hard for them to look for good music that’s out right now? Or maybe it’s because they’re lazy as shit. IDK. Cool segment on Winners and Losers of the Week. And like last week’s episode, this one was disrespectful too. But overall, great episode.

    1. When we go to hell, you’re going with us bruh. You be feelin’ how we do. lol. Thanks for always comin’ through and listening. It really helps us keep doing this shit to know that folks are paying attention.

  3. According to the Player Efficiency Rankings…only 3 players are above Vino…

    LeBron, KD, and Varejao.

  4. The thought of Kobe not being top ten is ridiculous. I wouldn’t even put Durant above him yet. RIGHT NOW LBJ > KOBE > KD… Also Dwight is the best big man in the game since Shaq. The Heat would be FOOLS to pass on a Bosh trade. Side note, expect John Wall to have a BREAKOUT season this year.
