nappyafro’s Hottest MCs In The Game 2010

After seeing MTV’s Hottest MCs In The Game we felt it was time for us to put together our own list (Actually, we did “Hottest MCs” lists before MTV. Know your history). To be honest, nappyafro newcomer DuB was the first to come to the table about doing our own Hottest MCs In The Game for this year. So after choosing the criteria (rhyme skill, flow, buzz, commercial success, business ventures, Web presence, and cultural influence), getting a personal list from everybody on the crew, and tallying the votes, nappyafro has ranked our Top 10 Hottest MCs In The Game. If you wanna see the personal list of everybody who voted, go here. But without further ado…

LET’S START THE COUNTDOWN!

  1. Dont agree with Ye at number 1, I dont care what anybody say about singles either nobody does numbers like Gucci and I dont mean in record sales I mean in everything you do being such a big success. Kanye makes more headlines for has antics now than his music. Dont get me wrong Ye is prob the best record maker on the list. I would say take B.O.B out and add Wiz or Gucci

    1. Gucci? He’s not even at the level he was last year? Waka Flocka is hotter right now and he didn’t even make this list. I do agree with you about adding Wiz Khalifa though

      1. I meen think about it when your not on the net and you hear people talking about a new mixtape or a car going down the street blastin music most of the time its Gucci. Hes defienetly hotter than B.O.B real talk nobody gives a fuck about B.O.B. And yeah Nicki’s singles are playing and poppin but are they really that hot?

  2. Honorable Mention. Diggy Simmons- Atlantic Records deal, at&t contract, hot mixtapes, BET cypher
    10. J. Cole- He’s got a lot of buzz. Great anticipation on the album.
    9. B.O.B.- Great pop success, but he’s still a rapper i guess.
    8. Waka Flocka Flame- He’s not lyrical at all, but Hard in the Paint, O Lets Do It, and No Hands are hot in the streets and clubs.
    7. Rick Ross- Solid album. BMF is an anthem. Ashton Martin Music is a classic.
    6. Jay-Z- Greatest to ever do and personal favorite. BP3 came out over a year ago. Only been on features and tours. Outside of his Freemasons verse, the rest are just okay (Hot tottie, Monster, Light Up. etc).
    5. Drake- Album was a solid effort. 500,000 in week 1. Soundtrack of summer 2010. But he lacks great performance and charisma. Cooling off quickly.
    4. Kanye West- Everyone loves G.O.O.D. Friday. Power Remix, he spits his best verse ever. But I not seeing the excitement and anticipation for this upcoming album as I did for Recovery and Thank Me Now. And definitely not Pink Friday.
    3. Lil Wayne- He only had the hottest mixtape of the year, No Ceilings. A rock album that peaked at #2, Rebirth. A current album at #1, IANHB. Basically is on every video on MTV Jamz. All of Young Money is thriving. And did I mention he’s been in jail since February? Thats Hott.
    2. Nicki Minaj- Who is a bigger topic than Nicki? Whether they like her or dont for whatever reason, everyone knows Nicki. She’s on every song and kills anybody who has the balls to get on a track with her (cough cough Jay-Z, Kanye, Drake, and Wayne). Men love to look at her and woman wanna be her and look like her…. seriously look at these chicks hair. Guaranteed that there will be a little girl as Nicki on Holloween.
    1. Eminem- I repeat, Eminem. Opened the VMA’s. two #1 singles. 750,000 albums sold a week after drake put his album. That tells you people saved their money that week for something better. Murdered Drop The World, song of the year.

  3. Very accurate, Hov stan but can’t argue with hov only being 3 and Ye being 1.I fucks with Cole heavy but is he 10 or more like an 11 or 12.

  4. 1. Eminem
    2. Kanye West
    3. Jay-Z
    4. Rick Ross
    5. Lil Wayne
    6. T.I.
    7. Nikki Minaj
    8. Drake
    9. J Cole
    10. B.O.B.

    @Jerm
I can’t believe you put Soulja Boy on that list.

      1. B.o.B. “Nothing On You” and “Airplanes” singles is way better than Soulja Boy albums put together. The only credit I’ll give Soulja Boy is the fact he pimped youtube hard and got on. I definitely give him props for that but to say Soulja Boy is a hot emcee is reaching. He can’t even rap and Lil B outshine him every time. Just because Soulja Boy is a young boy making it don’t mean I have to co-sign his material.

          1. I think not… We will see in the next 10 years where Soulja Boy stands. I doubt it if he will be mentioned along with the greats and I don’t see B.o.B. being mentioned either but he do what he do for right now though. Dude is a better rapper than Soulja. Speaking of Soulja what is up with Lil B making them gay remarks on Kanye (well remarks like that period about a dude)?? Dude is funny and all but he is pushing it.

  5. J. Cole at number 10? you guys are crazy he deserves to be atleast 6 or 7, but he isnt that mainstream though so, But I think Em is number one and Ye is number 2, then the rest is good…P.S. lol alot better than MTV’s list

  6. Wiz has more real (non-internet) buzz than J. Cole. I don’t hear girls asking to hear “Who Dat” at parties, but “Black & Yellow”? That shit gets mad spins.

      1. At the end of the day, no one compares the lyrical ability of Wiz to any of the greats. I get he makes songs for the ladies but so does Bow Wow. That is not the main criteria for this list.

        1. Yes Wiz has great lyrical ability, I mean didn’t you see how great that recycled line was on the BET cypher….I mean when you have one opportunity to get the public spotlight you just HAVE to use one of your recycled lines and not come up with a new and better verse…

          1. Im not saying Wiz isnt lyrical but hes not on the same level as J. Cole and you have to remember Cole is doing award shows and hasn’t put out an album either. Think about that fact and tell me who is hotter?

  7. J. Cole #1. Banks should be on the list, so should Fab. I am a huge Nas fan but his year way pretty quiet. His album with Jr. Gong was tight but I can’t include him in the top 10. He was silent. Mine as well throw Budden on the list.

    1. Ill agree you can make the argument for Banks but over who, and the same for fab. If you take someone off the list you still have Luda who is ahead of both of those cats this year

  8. I just peeped, Nas ONLY made 2 peoples list and based on one of them ranking him #1, he made the top 10. smh. Such is countdowns though. Even the other person that had him ranked put him down at 8.

    1. Honestly, when I saw Nas name come up I was confused. But that 1 first place vote changed up the whole list (Believe me, I recounted the votes like 10 times). That’s also why I had Ark write up the particular section about Nasir.

  9. My Top 2010 Emcee List (NOT based on commerical success, buzz, business ventures, web presence or cultural influence). Is this what it takes to be a “hot” emcee? Tell that to KRS-One or any of the originators.
    1. Nas – Distant Relatives (Instant classic), the best hip-hop/reggae album ever.
    2. Black Thought – How I Got Over (Instant classic), Jimmy Fallon show appearances.
    3. Big Boi – Dropped one of ’10’s best without Andre 3000.
    4. Wiz Khalifa – Kush & OJ is probably the most smoked to album/mixtape of the year.
    5. Kanye West – Can’t argue with this one or the G.O.O.D. Friday hookups
    6. Raekwon – Murdered everything he was on, who has had more guest apperances in ’10?
    7. Eminem – Still finds time to put it down when he’s not singing.
    8. KRs-One – Oldest man in the game still dropping knowledge and lyrics are never off point.
    9. Jay-Z – The Detroit & NY concerts w/ Em were big, but what has he really done besides that? Watch The Throne should be epic though.
    10. Vinnie Paz – One of the year’s sleepers and he did it without Jus Allah & Stoupe.

    1. Arkitekt, you know I respect your opinion but Top MC’s and Hottest MC’s are two different things. I fucks with everybody on your list but I don’t think there’s ANY planet where Nas, Thought, Big Boi, & Wiz are hotter than Kanye right now. If we talking about the best pound for pound right now, that’s something different, but the hottest? Naw.

      1. Just MY opinion of who is doing there thing. Don’t really watch MTV, BET, VH1 or listen to the radio so I wouldn’t know what a “hot” emcee…i thought an emcee had to be more about lyrics anyways.

          1. So Hottest MC actually means most popular musical artist on MTV??

Am I the only one who thinks that half of these rappers shouldn’t make the list b/c they don’t fall into the emcee category. All these dumbass lists that MTV & VH1 do is why hip hop is a joke right now. When did hip hop become a fashion show and popularity contest?

          2. @ Arkitekt

MTV doesn’t play music videos anymore.

I honestly think everybody on the list that came out by nappyafro are talented. Are they the best MC’s ever? No. But that’s not the list.

Like I noticed you didn’t put Rick Ross on your list. Not only did he have a good yeat but I think Ross can rap. And this is from a guy who bought the Eastern Conference All-Stars albums back in the day. Bought Pharoahe Monch’s first album on Rawkus as well as Black Star’s.

I think this comes down to personal preface. You like artists that are more underground or have paid dues in Hip-Hop and thats cool (I mean, you did put KRS over Jay-Z). But I think if you put out an album and you barely crack a 1,000 in sales, you can’t be that hot (I’m not saying sales = good music). Matter of fact, if most people don’t know if you have an album out, you can’t be that hot. If you play the album at a party and 90% of the people there start complaining, you can’t be that hot.

  10. Not even the biggest Wiz Khalifa fan but he has to be on list and HIGH on the list at that….the dudes gotten Lil Wayne popular

  11. Well if we are going by who is creating the most buzz then Wiz Khalifa has to be on the list and high on it too. I hear him wherever I go – bars, parties, clubs, and you wouldn’t believe how many women mention him…anyways…
