J. Cole – “Lost Ones” [Video]

For the visuals for “Lost Ones”, J. Cole dusts off a video he did before he got signed to Roc Nation. How do I know this? Because it says it in the beginning of the actual music video:

With just a Dollar and a Dream, this video was shot in 2008 before I even had a record deal. 3 years later, watching it still gives me the same emotions. This is dedicated to the Lost Ones.

But on a serious note, ever since the first time hearing “Lost One”, I thought it was one of the realest songs I ever heard. Glad to see Cole had to foresight to get with director BBGun (The same guy that directed “Who Dat”) to match the feelings of the record.

        1. He’s a fake rapper though…he can be someone’s favorite fake rapper, but he can’t be their favorite rapper

          1. I definately think J.Cole is overrated but I don’t get the fake rapper thing? Is it the singing or what he considers singing?

          2. I’m glad you asked – I’ll tell you why. He has corny lines. You find one corny line by someone, that right there is the tell. They are faking the whole thing. If it come from your heart, if that shit is real, that shit will not be corny. Ever. You say “I got 150 bitches in the club starin at me / how that feel / very happy,” you just showed me your true colors.

  1. Ooh. You think he’s fake and he raps. Not that he’s a pretending to be a rapper, got’cha. But alota rappers exaggerated or make up shit, dosen’t neccesarily make’em fake. Plus, Cole was just a regular dude, not a D-Boy or anything, so after he got signed and bitches started jocking him, he was very happy…

    1. Yeah, I can see how it seems like that’s a better way to put it. But I meant what I said. He’s fake in that his thoughts don’t translate into lyrics how they do for a real RAPPER. There are people out there really doing it like that…I’ll tell you from experience. You don’t believe me, I’ll send you my almost-finished mixtape RIGHT NOW, I don’t give a fuck, I’m putting that shit out at some point anyway.

        1. Actually, now I’m annoyed. Here is what I listen to: Nas, Jay-Z, 2Pac, Biggie, Kanye, 50 Cent, Eminem, Termanology, Jadakiss, Dipset, Slaughterhouse, Xzibit, etc. etc. I don’t fuck with bullshit. I listen to REAL SHIT, now fuck off with that garbage. Gucci and Waka Flocka are garbage. J. Cole is not garbage. But he is not on the level that some of these people are. You motherfuckers are some fans because you will never understand this. There are Mozarts and Da Vincis and Michaelangelos living in this world. There are real artists out there. There are people who live, eat, breathe, and shit lyrics. Just because your tiny ass fucking mind can’t comprehend it doesn’t mean it isn’t true.

      1. That is not hate at all…I listen to J. Cole. I’m a huge J. Cole fan. I just don’t think he makes rap music all the time. Some of his songs really come from the heart. But some of that shit is forced. I’m not gonna argue with some motherfuckers on the internet, but you guys have no clue what you’re talking about.

        1. You think everything they say is true? You think Eminem really killed Kim? You think Jada is still selling drugs? You think Biggie really robbed some dude on the New York Knicks on the same night that he fucked his girl?
Every rapper you named is “faker” than Cole, and almost all of them are better than Cole but they damn sure don’t live their lyrics.

          1. You believe in God? Because I do. But I don’t believe in an almighty being. Yes, Em killed Kim. Yes, Jada is still selling drugs. Yes, Biggie robbed that dude and fucked his girl. Metaphorically. Figuratively. It comes out in those words, so you fans take it literally. But that shit is all just from the heart and it means something – just not EXACTLY what you would expect it to mean.

          2. Wait wait wait wait wait…. So Biggie DIDN’T really robbed some player off the New York Knicks & fuck his girl the same night? Motherfucker.

  2. @Pratical…… I use to respect your opinion, but after these enlightened crack head comments I can never take you serious again.

        1. It’s not about being hurt – if you don’t see what I’m saying, you’re just not on my level. Therefore, I’m naturally gonna tune you out.

    1. All Practical is trying to say is that when J.Cole spits shit he don’t feel it. That to him, something is just missing that doesn’t make him feel like he’s a real dude.

  3. Damn. HOW many dayz has this conversation been going? I mean I didn’t wanna get into this but, Practical, juss stop. I dnt know what ur trying 2 say, but it comes off completely irrelevant. Now why dnt we talk about sumthin new now. How bout that Nicki Minaj sex tape huh? Or perhaps Immortal Technique’s free new album? Something…

      1. A lot is to feel bad about. It wuz pretty tripped out 2 hear his speech towards tha end, and hav him assassinated. I imagined that shit like it wuz real before I expected that. I’m happy he put a little sumthin out though, instead of spoiling his fans. Ha, he wondered whut tribe he had those Native Americans on tha last track, cuz I happen 2 be Navajo and Hopi.

      1. Haha no, I don’t troll. But yeah, I’m all for changing the topic of conversation. I got nothing but love for you dudes, and I really don’t feel like I’ve disrespected anyone or that I’ve been disrespected. That goes for DuB too. Get on my level and we’re good.

    1. fake or not, the true point of art izz to relate to the audience on a personal level… and personally this song was ’07 all over again for me when i was going thru sum shit very similar to the story cole tells… @practical ur opinion izz ur very own so i cant hate even if i cant relate, but for me this song izz like that.. i kno niggas changed the subject but after reading them comments and feelin the way i do i had to throw my 3 pennies in, that izz all…

      1. Good shit, I’m actually really not sure what to think of Cole at this point. I know I said he’s fake, but I’m mostly just making it known that there ARE deeper levels than most people think.

  4. I’m not a big fan of J.Cole but I do appreciate him as an artist sharing messages about a variety of topics from his point of view. Before you start hating on him you should ask yourself, “What have you done today to make the world a better place for you and your children?”…”Which of your dreams have you let fall to the wayside?”…”What are you waiting for?” You have to to sit and denounce the authenticity, intent and quality of someone else’s work but you won’t spend that same amount of time doing something positive to make yourself a better, stronger, smarter you? You don’t have to love every artist you hear but why waste your time bashing them? You’re better than that. Seriously, you’re better than that.
