Albums That Were Overlooked By The Grammys

Camp

Childish Gambino – Camp (November 15, 2011)

Drake is nominated for an album that he said was going to be about a boy that dreamed of a lifestyle of riches and finally achieved his dream to find that the lifestyle comes with false happiness and more problems. To me, Take Care was an album filled with songs about a guy not liking a girl’s current relationship (I’m just saying you can do better!), songs about a guy losing his girl, and some good rapping mixed in between. I don’t know where, “Make Me Proud” fits into those categories. This album did not deliver on that description. 8 of the 17 songs on “Take Care” were relatable, while the others were melodramatic attempts for my attention.

On the same day, another album was released that was said to capture the Black experience for a young boy with different preferences and likes compared to his peers and the stereotypes of his White counterparts. Childish Gambino delivered an album filled with stories of life in the projects with both his parents, life with fame and wealth while being African-American, and life as a person that uses all of the negatives from his personal issues to benefit his personality for great success.
