Rarely do we witness an under appreciated artist receive the recognition they truly deserve. While accolades like the Grammys aren’t the sole measure of musical prowess, Killer Mike‘s recent sweep of the Grammy rap categories with his album Michael was a long-overdue acknowledgment. Personally, I anticipated this victory ever since I reviewed the album back in July. Mike’s triumph in categories Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Performance marks a significant milestone in his career, coming more than two decades after his first and only Grammy win for his collaboration on Outkast’s “The Whole World.”
This week’s Song of the Week serves as a tribute and a hearty congratulations to Killer Mike for his well-deserved success. “I Gotcha” stands out as one of my personal favorites from his repertoire, making it a fitting choice to celebrate his monumental achievement.
