2012 nappyafro Awards: Albums of the Year

Life Is Good

2. Nas – Life Is Good

Released: July 13, 2012 ~ Reviewed: July 23, 2012 (5 out of 5 Stars)

It had been a while since I heard an album where I was damn near waiting for the downfall. From the moment I pressed play, I was shocked by each song I heard. As I stated in the review, not being a Nas fan but still familiar with his work, I thought I knew what to expect. In fact, I got what I expected. Lots of “authentic” Hip-Hop and some good lyricism. What I didn’t expect was the execution. Those authentic tracks became Hip-Hop legends themselves and the lyricism was above exquisite. Simply stated, at this age in his career, Nas put out an album that guys his age…hell, that even most guys that are younger aren’t able to put out. Songs like “Stay”, “Daughters”, “Accident Murderers”, “The Don”, …man, let me stop because I’ll end up naming the whole album. Even the weakest track on the album can’t bring down nappyafro’s first 5 star album. Before K.Dot came out, this was the runaway album of the year, it’ll have to settle for being the second runaway album of the year, and nothing is wrong with that at all. – Saule Wright
