Apollo Brown & O.C. – Trophies
Mello Music Group
Bottom Line: We all have that one album we should’ve reviewed and Trophies is my pick. This album is pure Hip-Hop. There is nothing but superb lyrics and flow to go with boom bap beats. This simple formula is what makes the record one of the years’ finest. Trophies has no guest features, no weird beats, no deep concepts, basically nothing out of the ordinary, but it’s surely not needed. And much props to newcomer producer Apollo Brown for constructing balance and chemistry with O.C. You can always count on Apollo to put in the time and effort to make a complete project like he has with Boog Brown, Hassaan Mackey, Journalist 103 (The Left) and Guilty Simpson. Oh, and if you’ve never heard of O.C., check out his first two classics Word…Life and Jewelz – two of the best records of all time.
Top 5: “The Pursuit”, “Anotha One”, “We The People”, “Angels Sing”, “Fantastic”
