Juelz Santana – God Will’n
One of the most downloaded mixtapes released this month, God Will’n boats some big name guest spots from Rick Ross, Future, Lil’ Wayne, and Wiz Khalifa among others. Despite this star-studded lineup, the Dipset veteran’s long-awaited return doesn’t have much to offer and suffers from boring beats and cookie-cutter lyrics. (Download)
YG – Just Re’d Up 2
This West Coast tape is full of sparse beats, simple synth lines, and sex and money talk. If you’ve heard one track you’ve heard it all. (Download)
Master P – Al Capone
Mr. Make ‘Em Say Uhh is in the process of rebuilding his No Limit empire and enlists Fat Trel and Alley Boy to help him out. Both of those rappers are all over Al Capone which is a generic collection of repetitive thug rap. (Download)
CyHi The Prynce – Ivy League: Kick Back
G.O.O.D. Music’s resident southerner released another mixtape that suffers from the same problems as his previous work: CyHi can write some nice punchlines, but he doesn’t have the personality or energy level to be engaging for an entire project. (Download)
Future – F.B.G. The Movie
I’m finally starting to understand the hype around this guy. He has a knack for writing catchy hooks that will almost always get stuck in your head, and the drugged-out android vibe is somehow compelling. But F.B.G. The Movie is way too long and features way too many mediocre guest verses. (Download)
Rockie Fresh – Electric Highway
Electric Highway is decent, but the latest project from MMG’s most recent signee just recycles sounds pioneered by recently successful artists like Kid Cudi, A$AP Rocky, Wiz, or 808’s and Heartbreak-era Kanye. (Download)
