Kendrick Lamar Tops MTV’s Hottest MC List, 2 Chainz Is #2

WGCI-FM Big Jam 2011

MTV’s brain trust finally concludes it’s Hottest MC’s in the Game VIII list and sitting on top is none other than Compton’s own Kendrick Lamar, followed by 2 Chainz in the #2 spot.

As for the rest of the list? The Carter’s surprisingly are nowhere to be found (Jay-Z & Lil’ Wayne). Kanye West also ranted on being #7 on list and A$AP Rocky argued that he should be #1.

Personally, I don’t have a problem with K.Dot being #1 on the list. 2 Chainz could have easily been #1 too. Future & Drake could probably be moved up the list and Nas should probably be moved down a bit, but besides that, it’s not a bad list.

Sidenote: The FROCAST had a good discussion about MTV’s Hottest MC list.

1. Kendrick Lamar
2. 2 Chainz
3. Rick Ross
4. Nas
5. Drake
6. Big Sean
7. Kanye West
8. A$AP Rocky
9. Future
10. Meek Mill

  1. Nas shouldn’t be on the list at all. So Wayne didn’t make it at all after being on ALOT of the songs on the radio? When was three last time you heard Nas on the radio?

      1. The list says HOTTEST IN THE GAME. Just having a good album doesn’t make you HOT, being on features, on the radio, in the clothing stores, in the news, and on peoples tongues (pause) makes you HOT. Nas ain’t done none of that.

        1. I hear what you’re saying but I think Nas album was hotter to the music crowd than some of these cats just the same as some of these are hotter commercially than they are with the actual music crowd. So while a Nas may not be on other folks songs and moving merch, he moved albums when a lot of folks don’t and he got the Hip Hop community excited about authentic music, even earning a Grammy nomination.

        2. Maybe thats your definition of hot but Mtv has a list of its requirements and it goes impact, buzz, lyrics, sales, style, and intagibles. And just cause its on the radio doesnt mean people like it I mean I can name a ton of songs I heard more than swimming pools but they didnt go platinum which is more important sales or radio?

          1. Nice to see the nas thing go by the waist side….Lets go thru the checklist he definitely had a below average impact I mean look how may artist mixtapes mattered more than his Sean,Meek,Ross etc. and he didint drop an album so there is that. Buzz I mean did I miss something between hommie still and No Worries.Lyrics I rather not talk lyrics with wayne fans cause I dont feel lines like “I would talk about my dick but that’ll be a long story” so lets just say lyrically he’s done enough. Sales I mean No Worries Homie Still and that 2chainz joint didnt do much(though Love Me will probably go 3x platinum) again no album.Style and intangibles is opinion so I’ll give u that. But who comes off?

          2. “Bandz”, “Pop That”, that song with Kelly Rowland, are just some off the top of my head. All these songs were major. Nas only sold 500k albums…Wayne ain’t sold less than that in 15 years!

          3. But we talking this year.. Kelly Rowland song didnt do well, bands was a remix to an already smash and would pop that be a hit without lil wayne? I think so.

          4. So we gone keep frontin like Nas been hotter than Weezy at ANY time since 1999? What has Nas done that has made him hot?

          5. I guess we’ll just disagree but Stillmatic was 01 I’m guessin he was hotter than Wayne then. And I don’t think popular and hottest is the same thing.

          6. What is your definition of “hottest”?

            Mine’s

When you get features on big songs, when you on the tv, when you on the radio, when your video is poppin on youtube, when you in the news, when people know your name. That’s what all the people on the list have in common EXCEPT one nigga. I’ll let you guess who the nigga is I’m talking about. I don’t know why ya’ll can’t put aside your person feelings about Nas and see it for what it is. Did he have a good album, yes he did. But I don’t want to hear “Daughters” when I’m out having a drink.

          7. I like the 6 things mtv listed above. I mean cmon Im not the one being biased here i never listen to future or 2chainz and they both shouldve been top 5. Lets not let the radios and the labels tell us whats hot I mean you called Lil wayne song with Kelly Rowland “that song with kelly rowland” how hot was it really. Wayne tried vert hard to takeover this year and it didnt work dedication 4 didnt make the impact of mixtapes from lesser artist like Sean, Ross, Meek, like I said b4 and he’s album has been pushed back so long that by the time it does drop hommie still will be a year old. Thats not hot 4 singles in calender year (3 of of them with big features Big Sean Drake 2Chainz Future) and no album from someone as accomplished as Wayne isnt hot who is he french montana or something.

  2. They lost me at “hottest” mc. Sounds like some high school shit. Plus, does MTV even know what an emcee is?

  3. Jay-Z could go away for 3 years & still be a top 10 “hot” MC. How is Wayne not here? Big Sean over Ye? Big Sean, period? Drake should be 2. Kendrick is all I agree with.
