2013 nappyafro Awards: Underground Albums of the Year

CzarFace

5. Czarface (Inspectah Deck, 7L, & Esoteric) – Czarface
Released: February 19, 2013 [Brick Records]

This album surprised a lot of people. For one, people have been saying that Inspectah Deck has been on the downfall. Deck sounds lost finding his style and flow, and at times just feels lazy with his recent releases. Others say Esoteric is a one-dimensional rapper and 7L’s best material is behind him. Oh how the critics were wrong. This record sounds like it was recorded in the mid 90’s. 7L created an original Hip-Hop record with boom bap, scratches, and clean samples to make any fan of the golden era of Hip-Hop truly admire this. Furthermore, Rebel INS is a monster on this. This may very well be his best album ever. I’ll definitely be looking forward to Czarface 2 which is scheduled to drop this year.
