The much hyped about “Not Tonight (Ladies Night Remix)” reunion happened last night at the annual Soul Train Awards. I didn’t watch it live because why would you watch the Soul Train Awards in 2014? There was also a Jodeci reunion at the awards show to but it was mostly lip syncing and a reminder of why Jodeci fell off in the first place (Jodeci is dropping a new album by the way).
The “Ladies Night” reunion was cool in thought but in the end it felt lacking. And not just because Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes obviously couldn’t be there (R.I.P. Left Eye) but for some reason Angie Martinez wasn’t available either (We all know where to find her at). And why didn’t Missy Elliott just sing the hook instead of Pam from Total. Lil’ Kim and Da Brat showed up so that’s something.
This whole thing seemed like a simple slam dunk. Just perform it like it they did at the MTV Awards back in the day and just let Lil’ Mama do Left Eye’s part. Simple.
