Alt-Day Sunday: Julia Michaels – “Priest”

Two years ago, I heard a song on the radio that I was looking forward to hearing repeatedly thanks to terrestrial radio’s practices. “Issues” is a song where a woman examines herself and the person she chooses to occupy a relationship. Her flaws are not the only ones that could hinder their happiness, but knows that exposing them will help them reach being a happy couple. Uh-huh. From there, her EP, Nervous System was released and then the songwriter turned front woman disappeared from my radar.

Well, in that two years, she went on tour and opened for Maroon 5, P!nk, and others. Meanwhile, she was being 23 years old and racking songwriting credits for John Legend, Shawn Mendes, Janelle Monae, 5 Seconds of Summer, Lady Gaga, etc.

This year, on January 24th, she released an 6-track EP entitled Inner Monologue Part 1 and man, that 25-year old woman has some stories to tell. Relationships and mental health have never been the subject of better pop songs than the ones she released in the form of “Happy,” “Anxiety” with Selena Gomez, and “What A Time” featuring Niall Horan.

On June 28th, she came back like Jordan wearing the 45 and dropped Inner Monologue Part 2 and kept that same energy.

“Priest”

While I’m thinking about catching Julia Michaels at the Dallas stop of her first headling tour, I don’t see any reason why not play another song from her that drops the f-bomb. Happy Sunday!
