Back at it again with another Notable Tracks post. This is where I pick three tracks I’ve been listening to lately and share my thoughts. I’ve been slacking but I’m here now and two Notable Tracks in three weeks isn’t bad. Let’s get to it.
Jay Electronica recently dropped THREE projects in three days. And somewhere the 2008 version of B-Easy is extremely happy. And yes, each project has around 5 to 7 tracks and there are a lot of interludes involved, which if you listen to Jay Electronica, is totally on brand (there’s even an oddly timed Diddy intro on Leaflets that I’m not even gonna get into). But I’m just happy that we have new music from Jay Electronica. An early favorite of this new music is the Quentin Miller featured “Who Killed Michael Jackson??????”.
I see what Lil Yachty is trying to do and I respect it. But most of the time when Boat drops a new song with a dope beat, he is the worst part of the song (“The Secret Recipe” featuring J. Cole is a great example of this). It happens again to Yachty on “Silver Lining” but thankfully he brings Sauce Walka along to do his thing here and steal the show: “Listen, baby boy/Gotta drop your nuts, nigga, Almond Joy/Know a couple Melvins that got killed for step-daddy noise”. Ouwee!!!
Let’s end this post off paying tribute to Young Dolph. I vaguely remember this song as well as the video but I heard this recently and was reminded how much this goes off, especially “Reverend” Project Pat (“Motherfuck the lizaws/Glock in my drizawers/Frazier boulevard, your ho tryna get my bizalls”) Shout out to Memphis. R.I.P. Dolph.
