Basically, nobody is fucking with Adele on these charts right now. Nobody. First off, when the last time you seen somebody sell 700,000+ in one week after their album has been out for a full year (That’s some 1990’s shit right there). With over 7 million albums sold, it looks like 21 is going Diamond (Shout out to Prodigy) and maybe faster than we thought.
Adele’s 21 album also grabbed yet another record this week:
21 is No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart for a 21st nonconsecutive week, marking the longest-running No. 1 album in the SoundScan era. It surpasses The Bodyguard soundtrack (20 weeks at No. 1 in 1992-1993) for the most chart-topping frames since the Billboard 200 began using SoundScan data in 1991.
Did I mention that Adele’s other album, 19, moved up to #4 on the charts this week? This whole thing kinda makes Lil’ Wayne‘s Tha Carter IV going Double Platinum & Mary J. Blige‘s My Life II… The Journey Continues (Act 1) going Gold this week seem kinda small in comparison huh? It even overshadows Whitney Houston‘s Greatest Hits moving to the #2 spot.
Sidenote: If I sold that many records, I would flip off anybody trying to cut off my acceptance speech too. Come on Brit Awards.
