The BET Awards was shown last night and you know that nappyafro.com had to hit you with a recap. Since the show was taped on Saturday, we know you know what happened, but we still have to talk about what was shown! We are going to talk about some of the winners/losers, the Ciphers, the performances, and some of the strange moments caught on camera.
Winners/Losers…
Common surprised us with a victory in this category, with the heavyweights in this category (Jay, T.I., Kanye, and Wayne) but you can’t deny Common, the guy is thorough!
KRS-One winning the lifetime achievement award was a good thing. I think it’s good that he was recognized. The youth need to know about KRS-One!
Kanye giving the video of the year award to UGK and Outkast was one of the most selfish acts ever! All the crying he does over awards and he’s giving one away?
Performances…
Lil’ Wayne had the best performance of the night. He proved to the crowd and the world that he is the #1 player in the game. No frills, no dancers, nothing but hot rhymes for your ass!
Common’s choice of song didn’t sit well with me. He chose “Drive Me Wild” over “The People”; What was he doing? You just won lyricist of the year, why come out soft?
The Ciphers….
Lil’ Mama surprised me in the first segment. I didn’t think that she had flow like that! Dizzee Rascal from London seemed out of place during the Cipher.
In the second cipher Phonte killed it! Let me repeat…Phonte killed it! Kardinall Offishall did his thing, but Stat Quo was the weak link out of the bunch.
The last segment featured Joell Ortiz in it, and I must say, I like the dude now! He did his thing easily outshining Ras Kass. Cassidy spit some baby bars, didn’t even seem interested in rapping.
The Rest…
Thought that it was funny that Pimp C didn’t show up in Atlanta after all his comments this summer! Guess he had something more important to do! Wow, I didn’t know that DJ Red Alert and Reynoldo Rey was the same person! How did Rass Kass get invited to the show? Okay, so who didn’t show that was supposed to! Why was Jay-Z nominated for everything? The BET Hip Hop Awards should be the Jay-Z Appreciation Awards, last year everyone had to give him credit when they stepped on stage. Guess Stephen Hill told him to stay home and give someone else some face time!
Well the BET Awards are a rap for 2007. The show was good, ran more smoothly than last years, but the performances were not that good. But with each year the show will be better so I can’t wait until next year.
