Kanye West – 808’s & Heartbreak [Review]

Mr. West has tried to diversify his music for most of his career; The College Dropout was a Hip-Hop record with the sampling and soul music of The Blueprint, Late Registration was the album where his production took center-stage, while his rapping was still great. Graduation is where Kanye really started killing it with lyrics that were just out of here! And now, he’s decided to sing an entire album T-Pain style. Plus, he’s dropping an album the same day as Ludacris’ Theater Of The Mind. Will Kanye finally prove he can sing? I pray to God he does as I review 808’s & Heartbreak.

1. Say You Will
Produced by Kanye West
This album kind of starts off with a dud: I mean, I want to like this track; the message is good, doing what you say you’re going to do, but Kanye’s singing is off key and also is off timing at sometimes. Whats more, he only sings for about 3 and a half minutes: the other 4 minutes is devoted to straight instrumentals. That’s right; even though the track says 6:18, it actually goes past 7 minutes! So yeah, I’m kind of up in the air on this one; sometimes I like it, other times I don’t. I will say that it sets the tone for the album but as a song it doesn’t stand alone too well.

2. Welcome To Heartbreak
Featuring Kid Cudi; Produced by Kanye West
Looks like Kanye pulled out a leftover beat from Graduation for this one. Still, this track is good. Kid Cudi, whoever the hell that is, assists Kanye’s singing on the track. The topic is kind of stupid though. It’s about the sadness in Kanye’s life: his lack of his own family, how he had to skip his own relative’s wedding, etc. Oddly no mention of his mother in here. This song is great, a step-up from the last song, and it continues to set the tone.

3. Heartless
Produced by Kanye West & No I.D.
When this song leaked, people actually started to change their minds about this album. This definitely should have been the first single seeing as Kanye raps on it a little; it would have been a much easier transition into his new sound instead of a sudden change like “Love Lockdown” was. I think the title speaks for itself, just play this song, it’s still one of the best on the album. So far the tone of the album has been pretty dark, but it still flows well and sounds great overall.

4. Amazing
Featuring Young Jeezy; Produced by Kanye West
Kanye’s singingi is real suspect on this one: I mean, sometimes I feel it, other times I just don’t feel it at all. The pianos on it are sick and everything, but the tone is kind of weird. ‘Ye pulled out animal sounds on it too and they just don’t work on this track. Jeezy’s rapping is great and all, but then they have his chopped and screwed voice on the hook and it’s a little head-scratching. I don’t know, like a lot of the tracks on this album, I’m still kind of up in the air on this one. Still, at times it can be a real jam and I really dig it.

5. Love Lockdown
Produced by Kanye West & No I.D.
It seems like at the last minute Kanye enhanced the songs that were leaked out to the public. This song sounded awful when I first heard it, but it’s not bad right now as it is. Unfortunately, this is not the live version of the song; I have that song on my MP3 player and it is much better than the studio version. There is just simply more emotion and feeling in that one. It kind of reminded me of Lil’ Wayne’s song “Gossip”: that was amazing at the BET Awards, but just okay as a studio version. As a song though, this is a good song, it’s much better than what you’ve probably heard.

6. Paranoid
Featuring Mr. Hudson; Produced by Kanye West
Whoo! This is more like it. This shit feels like 80’s Michael Jackson shit! I know how much Kanye likes Mike, so he must have channeled his inner Jackson on this one. This probably one of the few tracks on here I would keep on repeat; it’s awesome. Mr. Hudson is some British singer who really popular in the U.K. by the way. His singing on the hook is pretty bad, but it doesn’t kill the song. Great work.

7. RoboCop
Produced by Kanye West
Yeah, I wasn’t feeling this when it first leaked and now that it’s out, I’m STILL not feeling it. I mean, it’s still much better than the rough version that leaked out a couple months ago, but come on, this is still one of, if not THE worst tracks on the album. SKIP.

8. Street Lights
Produced by Kanye West
This is a lot better. It’s an introspective look on Kanye’s life (His singing is great too). The beat on the track goes well with the auto-tune like a lot of the other standout tracks on the album and this makes it another stand out on the album (Especially since a lot of the tracks on this album kind of don’t go along with the whole auto-tune thing). Great track though.

9. Bad News
Produced by Kanye West
Damn. I mean, the lyrics are great and the songwriting is very good; taking the perspective of a girl in a relationship that just went wrong, but the song just kind of sounds…bad. The auto-tune is just awkward with the beats that backs it up. It sounds like Kanye is underwater most of the song. This maybe an effect that Kanye put on the song to add meaning to it, but at the same time most people aren’t going to look into the meaning of the song while listening to it if it turns them off. I’m still really up in the air, though this time I’m kind of leaning towards a SKIP.

10. See You In My Nightmares
Featuring Lil’ Wayne; Produced by Kanye West
This my favorite track off the album; when I saw the feature I thought it was going to be “war of the auto-tunes”, and I was right. But not in the way I had thought it was going to be. Lil Wayne is singing the hook here and it sounds good, and even better he actually spits a 16 I can co-sign. I generally dislike Weezy even if I respect his following, but at the same time I can’t lie when he actually does some good shit. Kanye’s singing on the track is good, and his production further displays emotion and feeling while particularly dark. Like I said, my favorite track on the album.

11. Coldest Winter
Produced by Kanye West
This is the track he made about his mom, and this just might be the darkest of the all of the tracks on the album and I think that it goes without saying that it also is one of the most emotional. ‘Ye’s singing is great and at the same time betrays a lot of emotion because he doesn’t sing emotionally (If that makes any sense at all). This song is great, it’s particularly targeted at people who have lost people in their life; having lost family members in my life I can relate to the song’s message. Great song, a good way to close out the album.

12. Pinocchio Story
Produced by Kanye West
This track is a live freestyle he did while performing in Singapore. Reportely, Beyonce heard it and urged Kanye to put it on the album. This is basically Kanye lamenting on how he feels like he wants avoid fame and just be a “real boy”. He has no “Geppetto to guide him,” just him trying to find his way through life. Like the last track, this betrays a lot of emotion, and this is a good addition to the album

BOTTOM LINE

I know I said this throughout this whole review, but I’m still indecisive about this whole album. I mean, can you even call this Hip-Hop? Big deal if Jeezy and Weezy drop a verse on a song, that doesn’t give the entire album a Hip-Hop feel. People like T-Pain and Andre 3000 can get away with that, but when you have a sound like Kanye’s, it’s different. As a Hip-Hop reviewer, I reviewed this as a Hip-Hop album, or more precisely, how I would review a T-Pain album. ‘Ye fixed one of T-Pain’s faults: he kept it short and to the point. However, his musical prowess may go unnoticed because of how deep he gets. When you hear Kanye, you know he pushes the envelope, but this is different, he’s definitely going to go over a lot of people’s heads with this one. At the end of the day though, my review doesn’t matter; a lot of you out there will go out and buy his album even if it was his worst work, which I think that it arguably is (Which is hard to say when he’s released such gems in his past). I really hate to sit on the fence here, but this album is just an emotional roller coaster ride: sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad. If your ready for something different, give this album a spin. If not, you can wait for Kanye’s next album in June. I think this album will be a success, and Kanye should still be proud of the fact that he can branch out and make decent music in another genre. Update: Rating goes from 3 Stars to 4 Stars. Check out H20’s revisit t0 808’s & Heartbreak in the Play It Again Sam column for the reason.

  1. wooooow wtf how you gonna give t-pain more stars than this fucking masterpiece kanye is a genius and is ahead of his timee!!

cant wait to see what ya think about ludas classic….i think they both deserve 4.5 to 5 stars on tha real tho..

  2. Luda’s album is gonna get a 4.5 for sure, if Paper Trail and Recession got it, then I’m 100% sure Luda’s will be 4.5.

  3. T-Pain got a pass because he came out that, he didn’t introduce himself as a rapper. 3000 is plain out talented as well as cee-lo.

Hmm this album ok, I got mixed feelings about this.

  4. It’s hard for me to give a Kanye album 3 stars, but I mean I felt like I had to: I find it hard to even categorize this as Hip-Hop. We didn’t review N.E.R.D.’s album because even though you saw them perform at the BET Hip-Hop Awards their music isn’t really hip-hop. That’s all I’m sayin.

Like I said, T-Pain has perfected his craft. He makes beats that are evidently hip-hop, but Kanye released this album as a pop-R&B genre album. It’s just a different style and as hip-hop reviewer I find it hard to give 4 stars to that kind of album.

  5. A LOT of people look upset you gave Kanye 3 stars, man. The parts of the album I did hear wasn’t too terrible. I liked a few songs. I don’t know if it was 3 star material but maybe I’ll have to hear the rest. Mr.Hudson be getting off!!!

  6. @ v-g and crute

big ups on us rather wipe our asses with our money then buy this cd. it is shit! o and v-g this weekend i try to play you on call of duty i jus need money cuz ima get it this weekend.

  7. H20 you keep saying you gave it 3 stars cuz its not hip-hop, basically implying that you would rate it higher if this wasn’t a hip hop site, but I think it still deserves 3 stars, maybe even 2 1/2 even if you were to rate it from a pop context. I feel the same way, some songs are just plain bad others on the fence, a handful are good. I really hope this album bricks even though it won’t cuz that and bad reviews would be the only way to shake somebody with Kanyes ego from ever doing this again. 3000 can toe the line between pop r&b and hip-hop easily, kanye simply can’t. guest features like go hard prove he hasnt lost his skill at all but he just can’t sing and some of the lyrics and beats are wack. then he makes comments disparaging hip-hop like “my apartment is too nice to bump rap in, i would have to be in a grimier setting to do that,” and i just can’t cosign this shit. Here’s hoping album 5 will be A Good Ass Job…

  8. If you think about it, isn’t Kanye just basically trying to remake The Love Below?

Auto-Tune: Andre 3000 used this on Love Below

Love: Both The Love Below & 808’s was based on this subject

Dress: And yes both Andre & Kanye now dress wierd
    Think about it

  9. KANYE NEEDS TO FIND MIDDLE GROUND BETWEEN THIS POP SHIT WIT SOME RAP, HES TOOO GOOD OF A RAPPER TO JUST STOP LIKE THIS..IF HE CAN FIND A WAY TO COMBINE BOTH THIS CREATIVE POP SINGIN SHIT HE’LL BEE ON ANOTHER LEVEL FROM EVERYONE ELSE….YOU CANT HATE ON THE MAN FOR TRYIN SOMETHIN DIFERENT AND BEIN UNIQUE BUT HE TOO TALENTED OF A RAPPER TO NOT RAP AT ALL ON AN ALBUM AND THIS SHIT IS STILL A GREEAAT ALBUM

  10. You review this and not Luda’s album? Or thats coming tomorrow I guess. Actually I did like the album as it leaked, and now. Its a good album, not up to his original standards, but a lot of better than most of the crap that comes out today. I do have to disagree with Robocop though. I like that song, its not great, but its catchy, and also, well, a little cliched i gues. Its all about a girl whom he calls “robocop” i guess. Btw, what does he say in Robocop near the end. Does he say “Shes an L Laker?”‘

    Rating: 3.8/5

Favorite Tracks: Amazing, Welcome To The Heartbreak, Heartless, Coldest Winter, Robocop, See You In My Knightmares, Streelights, Love Lockdown, Paranoid.

  11. i havent got the album yet neither ludacris”,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,i really do think ludas album will b better……wont ead the reviews til i get the albums haha………..

  12. 808’s and heartbreak is a failed attempt at trying something new.

This will in no way tarnish Kanye’s rep as one of the best in the game right now, but it just shows how creative he can be. U have to admit on some of the songs the beats are incredible.

IMO the only song worth listening to is Amazing, because honestly the song is just that
    .
    *reason*

It’s more subliminal than anything ive heard all year and the message is serious. To break it down. It’s about a person who’s on top of it all living the Amazing life (Kanye’s 2 verses) and then the downfall of how he or she must change his or her lifestyle in order to survive (Jeezy’s verse)

    Ex.

Kanye-“i’m amazin, i’m the reason everybody’s fired up this evening, i’m exhausted, barely breathing, holding onto what i believe in”
(goes on to developing this character in verse 2)

cue in animal sounds to act as the demons taking over

Jeezy-“…trying to watch my sodium, i’m standin on my podium, got high blood pressure…”

They both killed it and it was a phenomal song.

  13. @ PItbull281

That was one nice interepertation of the song. I have to admit, now that you mention it, Amazing is about that subject. Intersting song to lock in wtith the Heartbreak.

  14. @ everyone

it looks like we got a split decision here: some of you agree, some disagree. That’s cool, I myself cringed when I gave Kanye the 3. That said, I’ve been keeping ‘See You In My Nightmares” on repeat constantly, even though I think the album as a whole is just ok.

I heard Luda’s album, which is plain Hip-hop, straight up. I think it’s the better album but Ye will DESTROY Luda iin sales. Just my prediction, Luda’s singles haven’t been doing well.

  15. Of course Jerm will say this is the album of the year. This is the reason why everyone is saying hip hop is dead. This shit isn’t even hip hop.

  16. I liked the very very beginning of “Heartless”, when it first started and the Wayne song is aight, but eveything else is doo doo butter….

I still haven’t heard too much of Luda’s album…. I was gonna get it today, but it didn’t work out…

  17. @ H20

Its true, singles like “What Them Girls Like” which I didn’t even know was a single until I read up on wikipedia (Good single btw, listen up on it), and Wish You Would (not a smart choice, but i guess I could see this smashing on hoods), and One More Drink (Good choice, for the T-Pain crooning), but in the end, none of them made buzz.. I mean, what kind of person who listens to a smidgen of hip hop wants an aggresive song like “Wish You Would” (Good song, again)

And yes, “See YoU in My Knightmares” I was a doubter at first, until I started lovign the track. Its a very moody track, and the producing is top notch as it sets the mood.

But, review Ludacris’s new album. My guess for your rating is probably an 3.5 – 4. Probably not a 4.5. There were some flukes in the album, like the one with The Game.

  18. I’m not reviewing the Luda album, someone else will take care of that. I almost did, but I passed it up for this review. Boy, do I regret that now. I already know what I would give the album, but I’ll wait until someone else reviews it.

I do disagree with you though: “What Them Girls Like” is probably the worst song on the album. “One More Drink” shoulda been the 1st single; I keep that on repeat like it’s my job. But it’s too late now, and Kanye will MURDER Luda sales-wise, but Luda has the better album, plain and simple. I actually like Luda more after hearing this album.

  19. THE BEST TRACKS OFF LUDAS: I DO IT FOR HIPHOP, EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS, CALL UP THE HOMIES(FUCK WHAT THEY SAY THIS SHITS DOPE), UNDISPUTED..
    4.5 STARS
ALL IN ALL GREAT FUCKING ALBUM

THE BEST TRACKS OFF KANYES: SEE YOU IN MY NIGHTMARES, AMAZING, HEARTLESS, PARANOID, STREETLIGHTS..
    4 STARS
YEEZY DID SOMETHIN NEW ANDD DIDNT DO BAD, NOW COMBINE THIS WITH SOME RAPPIN CAUSE EVERYBODY KNOWS HOW GREAT OF A RAPPER HE IS!

  20. Of Course Ye is gonna beast Luda in sales for the simple reason that all yall hatin on the album….it’s not ur run of the mill hip-hop. It’s an album based on creativity and emotion; and in my opinion that is hip-hop! A lot of people were hatin 3stacks when Love Below first dropped beacuse of the change of lane in subject matter and that was a banger. Kats was lovin the Weezy mixtapes when there was a new one every week because of the creatvity and emotions he was puttin in every track.

There is no question that Mr. West is one of the most talented beatsmiths and spitters in the game, but just the dude tries something different doesn’t mean it should automatically be dubbed a failure.

In my opinion… 4 star album.

HIP-HOP AIN’T DEAD(no thanks to YUNG BERG, MIKE JONES, or I kno I’ll get heat for this 50)… IT’S JUST GROWING AND BRANCHING TO A WHOLE NEW AUDIENCE!!!

  21. I agree that hip hop is all about creativity and that this album is definitely a hip hop hybrid. Problem is that Kanye doesn’t exactly do well at singing…his voice really isn’t made for it at all. Even if someone’s lyrics are great, singing them horribly will make it hard to listen to. No one wants to listen to an album that has good lyrics but sounds like shit to the ears. Not sayin Kanye’s music is sounding like shit, but his singing is half and half. You can’t compare Andre with kanye…due to Andre actually having a voice that is made quite well for singing…

This album is alright to me, and I could rant on and on bout it, but typing on an iPhone is not easy, so I’m done for now. I agree with H20 giving this album a 3, leaning toward a 3.5 at highest.

  22. @Chew

Glad somebody agrees with me, i thought i was the only one that caught that message in Amazing.

    @Everybody

DUH Kanye will massacre Luda in sales, BUT i think Luda had the better album.

  23. this is a terrible review…..you are bias thee entire time you are reviewing this album. This is not supposed to be like his 3 previous albums. This is something he had to put out….its a piece of a mans soul. This album is amazing, and your close mindedness is what makes you dislike it. He is releasing another album in june and I bet it will be the encore to graduation and the others before 808’s. This album is a classic and has been in my cd player since I got it. I knew he had this in him…I was waiting….5/5

  24. When I said Album of the Year, I meant across the board ALBUM OF THE YEAR. Who’s had a better album? Don’t say Nas, BORING! TI? uhhh. Kanye made a CLASSIC! This shit is going to be one of those timeless joints. Watch. You will appreciate this album with time.

  25. TRUE I DO BELIEVE THAT KANYE IS AHEAD OF HIS TIME WITH THIS ONE AND THAT IN A FEW YEARS YOULL SEE JUST HOW AMAZING THIS ALBUM REALLY WAS..BUT FOR ALBUM OF THE YEAR? I GOTTA GIVE IT TO L.A.X!!!!

  26. De La Soul was ahead of their time for DLS is dead and 3 feet high and rising. Now this is just an attempt of mixing hip hop with pop to attract a younger audience and sell more records. Ehh maybe I’ll give the album a few more listens.

By the way Nas (untitled) shits on this. Better concept, lyrics, flow, and hip hop beats. It’s not even the best album put out this week.

  27. This album is not ahead of it’s time. I don’t see myself listening to this album by the time June rolls around and I, along with everyone else who posted on this page, will be blasting Kanye’s new album, and 808’s will be completely forgotten.

  28. I promise you H2O..5 years down the line people will still throw in the 808’s just to listen to some of the gems that Ye put out on that album. It’s all about artistic expression, but it has to be done right. Kanye executed this album very well. Like I said, give it some time.

  29. By the way, I think you forget that I’m a young’un and part of the new school: I know maybe ONE person who liked this album. Everyone I know has told me it’s Kanye’s worst work.

Furthermore, it just isn’t hip-hop. I guess Jerm, you can’t claim to only have listened to Hip-hop after indulging in 808’s and Heartbreak!

  30. KANYEE DID SOMETHIN NEW AND SORTA SUCEEDED I MEAN EVERYTHING FROM THE BEATS TO THE LYRICS WERE THERE AND KANYES VOICE SOUNDED GOOD THE WHOOLE WAY THROUGH…..IMAGINE IF RAPPED A LIL IN EVERY SONG BUT KEPT THE ARTISTIC SINGIN TOO THEN KANYE WILL BE ON ANOTHER LEVEL, AND HOPFULLY KANYE REALIZES THIS BY HIS NEXT ALBUM IN JUNE HOPFULLY. THE MANS A GENIUS WHEN IT COMES TO MUSIC HE STARTIN SOMETHIN NEW AND IM FEELIN IT. BUT I CAN SEE WHY A LOT OF YOU ARENT, BUT IM PRETTY SURE ITLL GROW ON YOU……IT DEF DESERVES AT LEAST 4 STARS SEEIN SOME OF THE OTHER ALBUMMS THAT GOT 4.5

  31. @ H20

I disagree with your disagreement, but everyone has their opinions. After all, I’m probably the only guy who puts “What Them Girls Like” on blast. And yeah, Kanyes gonna kill in album sales.

  32. Man, this cd was gay… Yall shoulda got somebody’s little sister or Jerm to review this bull maybe it woulda made you soft-asses happy with the five it woulda got. Kanye is borderlin insane and this isnt helping his image. But “It’s his soul”! Well Kanye has the most homosexual soul ever created. Maybe him and Wayne can fuck on the weekends and make the Anti-Christ album while they’re at it. I’m kidding…. lol This is too much fun pickin on Kanye and the people who like this album lmao. sorry… I’m a little intoxicated….

  33. @ V-G

So I’m on par with someone’s little sister? LOL

“Yall shoulda got somebody’s little sister or Jerm to review this bull maybe it woulda made you soft-asses happy with the five it woulda got.”

I wouldn’t have gave it a 5, but I really do think that the album is just over your head. So you really hate Kanye don’t you?

Who do you hate more…Wayne or Kanye?

    You my dude V-G

  34. Haha Jerm! You know I like to mess wit yo hatin ass! But naw you aint that bad lol

I jus can’t get into this album man, but I can see how some people (Like Jerm) like it.

And Nah man I like Wayne and Kanye. They’re just usually gay in their respective career choices. Lol.

But naw im jus messin around haha….

  35. This is a nice review that you did for Kanye’s album H20. I’m the same with you in a fact that this album is still trying to sink in with me just because it’s not a typical Hip-Hop/Rap album. I think Kanye is good for being different and going outside of the box with an album like this. I downloaded this album and after listening to it a few times I’m going to go out a pick the album.

Not too many rappers or artists in general would be brave enough to make an album of another genre, and that’s kind of what sets Kanye apart from other artists nowadays. Too many of them are afraid to step outside of their “boundaries” and do something different. They’re afraid that people won’t accept it and that they’ll be looked down on for it. Bump that, we need more artists like Kanye, Andre 3000, etc. who aren’t afraid to test the waters and go against the grain.

This album isn’t as bad as people want to make it to be. They just don’t want to accept it because it’s not “typical” Kanye and he’s trying something different. This is an album that’s going to be appreciated with time. I don’t know if I would call it classic, but I would definitely say it’s groundbreaking. Watch, see how many other rappers and artists try something different and new just because Kanye was one of the first to do it.

To quote The Cool Kids…”People are just losers, and they’ll do anything if someone cool do it, but they won’t do it first” (Real Talk!!!)

  36. HAHH FIRST OF ALL FOR EVERYONE NOT DIGGIN THE ALBUM, IM ALMOST CERTAIN THAT ITLL GROW ON YOU, SOME CLASSIC MATERIAL RIGHT HERE. AND KANYE IS THE PIONEER OF THE AUTO TUNE NOT T-PAIN!! SO FUCKIN STOP SAYIN KANYE JOCKIN TPAIN, DAAAMN BUT ONE HELL OF AN ALBUM, NOW WATCH SOME MORE NIGGAS SWITCH THEY STYLES UP LIKE MY BOY KANYE

  37. I agree with SBK and DGAF, but really man….. If you want to make the transition, it’s gotta be slicker than this.
Everybody kept bringing up 3 Stacks, but I don’t remeber 3 Stacks catchin any flack like Kanye is getting because he made a SMOOTH, EASILY ENJOYABLE, and SMART transition into his “niche”.
808’s and Heartbreak is….. weird. I know this is cliched, but there’s a fine line between brilliance and insanity and Kanye is doing a damn good job masking his insanity as brilliance…

  38. THIS ALBUM IS GROWING ON MEE…AT FIRST I WASN’T FEELIN THE POP BULLSHITT…BUT I DONT THINK ITS TERRIBLE AND I CAN SEE WHY YOU EITHER HATE IT OR LOVE IT. THAT LUDA ALBUM STILL BEATS IT THO FOR SURE! THEATRE OF THE MIND 2ND BEST ALBUM OF THA YEAR RIGHT BEHIND L.A.X…

  39. The album is about his girlfriend breaking up with him! No one gives a fuck. Especially when its not done the right way.

The beats would work on a pop or vocal album, but not with Kanye’s vocals. His singing is weak and a lot of times off beat. And the voice decoder is just gay.

Some songs are just pointless (RoboCop, Bad News, See You In My Nightmares – h20 how do you like this song?). Others were a good idea, but didn’t just work (Coldest Winter, Pinnochio Story – too much high pitched screaming).

Top 3: Heartless, Love Lockdown, Paranoid

Grade: (1.5/5) D- (It’s grown on me a little, from F to D, basically for the musical vibes)

*And I’m not a Kanye hater. I thought his first three albums were good, but he should just stick to producing.

  40. Why you people care what dis dude is sayn,,,me nd you and a whole bunch of other people know kanye deserves more than what this dude is giving him…OBVIOUSLY he dosent know music when he hears it,,givin T-PAIN more than ye,,,please,,this album actually had meaning but w/e you people are weird

  41. when i first heard that kanyes new album was gunna have him singin throughout the album i jus gave up on him. i threw him in the hole with lil wayne and stopped listening to him for a while.then i started listenin to his old stuff and his verse from put on and im like what am i doing? he nothing like weezy. so i started listenin to 808s and it grew on me.
    @everyone
the album is not suppose to be like graduation and college dropout. kanye was bein creative to express himself and how he was depressed. jus appreciate it shit. how would you rap about your fiance hurting and leaving you ova some super hiphop beat? that wuld sound akward.and it not like he gave up on rappin, u heard go hard and put on he sill a beast on the mic. RELAX he coming out with his RAPPING album in da summer so jus chill and let 808s grow on you or jus listen to his old stuff till he release rappin stuff or numba 5 leaks or wuteva.kanye a beast and very creative.if you not feelin 808s thats you dont try the man face for it i dont see you releasing a album thats gunna go gold or thats bein creative. leve him alone shit.
    –asalamalakam

  42. Coldest Winter is a Tears for Fears song, not something Kanye wrote for his mom. He added one or two lines. Get some knowledge on musical history. A great original song, a decent cover.
