Jay-Z – The Blueprint 3 [Artwork x Tracklist]

bp3cover

Wow. So this is the cover to The Blueprint 3 huh? Honestly, I really don’t kno what to think. Hov is definitely going for the artistic look. But really, at the end of the day it’s only an album cover. Let’s take a look at the tracklist:

1. What We Talking About (Produced by Kanye West)
2. D.O.A. (Produced by No I.D.)
3. Weigh Me Down feat. Kid Cudi (Produced by Kanye West)
4. Unforgiven (Produced by Kanye West, Additional Production: MGMT)
5. Run This Town feat. Rihanna & Kanye West (Produced by Kanye West)
6. Empire State Of Mind feat. Nas (Produced by Kanye West & No I.D.)
7. When It Comes To This (Produced by Timbaland)
8. Always feat. Drake (Produced by Kanye West)
9. Scenes From The Past (Produced by No I.D., Co-produced by Kanye West)
10. Everyday A Star Is Born feat. Mr. Hudson (Produced by Kanye West)
11. Already Home (Produced by Kanye West)
12. Forever Young feat. Mr. Hudson (Produced by Kanye West)
13. Thank You (Produced by No I.D.)
Bonus Tracks:
14. Sound Of The 70’s (Produced by Kanye West)
15. We Made History (Produced by Kanye West)

The Kid Cudi feature still surprises me. I’m happy to see a Nas cameo as well as the sole producers basically being Kanye and No I.D. Even though it just a tracklist and album cover, I’m curious to see what people think. You ready for September 11th 8th? Update: Jay-Z explains the cover of The Blueprint 3:

Founder
  1. Hmmm… Pretty gay cover. The singles are just OK. Not too many features, cool. Kanye-Produced… Not exactly excited, but it looks straight.

  2. how can u call the cover gay? its not like jay is a young cat, he’s a 5 star general, and he’s going to appeal more to the older crowd

  3. I’m not feeling the cover already. I doubt this is the final cover. Unless I’m mistaken, he’s been on the cover of all of his own albums. This one doesn’t fit. Not only that, it’s the kind of cover I’d expect for a Kanye album.

    1. Exactly, Jay has been on the cover of all his albums thus far. I’m very surprised to see this as the album cover, but I also doubt that it’s the final one. The tracklist looks strong; not a whole lot of features and some good production (Kanye West mainly). I’m excited for this album and even if this is his final album cover, I’m not going to judge the quality of the music because of it. I’m hopin Jay will put out some classic shit. I guess we’ll find out September 11.

  4. I don’t mind the cover, it’s a tad boring, but it’s cool with all of the musical influences that affected Hov. But it doesn’t pertain to his usual album covers where it has him on it. I’m still excited for this album, no matter what.

  5. kid cudi has done hook references for jay in the past so it doesnt really surprise me that he’d give him a feature, especially now that hes surrounded by hype

  6. Doesn’t surprise me Kid Cudi is on it. He is Kanye’s guy and well…Kanye produced this album pretty much. I’m dying to hear that Empire State of Mind though..have a feeling that shit is going to be big

    1. IF that shit comes out, somebodies going to reference to the classic “N.Y State Of Mind.” Not saying it’s me, but somebody on the interenet will.

  7. not surprised that Jay got Drake on the album. Instead of building up HIS artists, he goes and gets the hottest in the game to do an album with. He shoulda did this one like The Dynasty Album.

    Oh Well.

  8. I believe both are official even though Jay said he’s been doing last minute work with Swizzy and possible Just Blaze. That artwork comes straight from his site, but to me it’d be better as a rear art. That abstract album cover is one Kanye influence he needs to leave alone, especially seeing he merged two old album covers. Looks like a strong tracklist tho. @450 unda the hood, yea it woulda been nice to throw J. Cole on the album, but you want him to dedicate THE BLUEPRINT 3 to the team? Nah man. But the next album should definitely be a dynasty two of sorts. (He doesnt even have enough Roc Nation people yet to fill a whole album does he?)

  9. Three Things:

    1. THANK GOD THERE IS NOT A WEEZY GUEST SPOT! Jay and Wayne just DON’T sound good together, IMO.

    2. Who’s Mr. Hudson?

    3. Cover looks kinda gay but the production looks nasty! I’m just ready to hear some fresh Kanye beats.

P.S. Let’s take votes right now, I think the track with Kid Cudi is going to be better than the one with Drake, what do u think?

    1. 1. Are you saying you didn’t like Mr. Carter? IDK, but the are a pretty good combo too me.

      2. Mr. Hudson is singer from the UK making his way here. Him & Kanye have been doing songs lately to give him noticed. Sorta like that Jay Sean guy.

And the Drake track will mos def outshine the Kid Cudi track.
      Drake > Kid Cudi anyday

      1. LMAO! Man ya’ll really hate Kid Cudi on the fro’! I’m not saying he’s amazing or anything but i think he’s pretty good.

        1. I saw him kick a freestyle at nokia theater. literally 1 of the worst frees i’ve ever seen. When he was over a syllable or didn’t have a word that rhymed, he did beat box noises lol. Dude should sit down and stfu

      1. I may lose my stan status for saying this, but after awhile “Run This Town” sunk in as a dissapointment.

Kid Cudi?? MR HUDSON!?!?! Add to that the fact that ‘Ye is producing 11 of the 15 songs on the album makes me realize where this album is going. Kanye is a pop/techno artist now, and Run This Town illustrates this perfectly. The fact that Jay is working with Kid Cudi and Mr. Hudson is a ‘Ye move. He is going to be the reason why this album isn’t classic, I’m tellin’ you now.

Between the weird cover and the features, this has POP written all
over it. Why was “D.O.A.” so hot?? B/c it was one of the few songs not produced by ‘Ye. I rest my case.

NOTE: I’m not hating on ‘Ye’s production, he’s got skills, but he’s got Jay rappin’ over pop productions, and the last he did that was Vol. 1: In My Lifetime, and that album turned out so great, didn’t it??

        1. Don’t people consider Kingdom Come to be Jay’s most pop album? Anyway, fall back for a sec and remember that Run this Town was made for charts. It is what it is, Rihanna and all. (And whatever you think of the song the beat was type hot.) But did Jockin, History, and BK Go Hard sound real pop to you, cuz they didn’t to me. Cudi and Hudson are iffy guests but if Jay was just gonna let Kanye run rampant and throw all the wack shit he’s into on the album, it’d be auto-tuned. Until the album drops just gotta hope Jay’s learned from past mistakes and knows what his fans want to hear. He is going around throwing the word classic around after all, he knows that’s not to be taken lightly…

  10. I don’t think BP3 is gonna be a disappointment, it’s just gonna be different. Most Jay-Z fans since ’96 have been waiting for another ‘Reasonable Doubt’ and then since ’01 have been anticipating another ‘Blueprint’, but quite frankly neither is going to happen and it’s really a good in fact. From the two singles “Death of Auto-Tune” and “Run This Town” is easy to see that Jay is adapting his music to fit the style and feel of music nowadays, and I think that’s what’s bothering a lot of listeners.

With it being another album in the Blueprint series and Kanye handling a majority of the production, listeners are expecting to hear soulful samples and prime time rhymes. Unfortunately that’s not gonna happen with this album or any to follow. A lot of things have changed since 2001 when the original Blueprint was released and that includes Kanye’s production style. You most definitely have noticed that with his own music since ‘The College Dropout’ was released and quite frankly the “soul sounding” beats/production in Hip-Hop is fading out and making room for more experimental beats utilizing different genres like Rock, World, etc. Besides that in terms of lyrics Jay doesn’t really have much to prove in that area, that’s why he’s been relaxed and had rap-talk flow on more recent tracks. That “22 Two’s” or “Can I Get Open” flow isn’t need 13 years later even though he could if he really wanted to.

Jay has never been one to stay boxed in and he’s definitely not going to with this album and people’s expectations of the sequel to the original Blueprint. Honestly, I think Jay by now has realized that Kanye has come into his own as an artist and individual in being a trendsetter and innovator (not just the Chicago kid with soul beats as he probably thought around the first Blueprint) and he’s not afraid to swallow some pride and realize when some things are becoming the norm. He said that he’s creating the “new” classic with BP3, not trying to duplicate the “old” classic with BP, and after it’s released I think a lot artists will probably follow suite in terms of production, design, etc. with their music looking at this album as the new “blueprint” to model after (the same as how Jay followed Kanye’s “blueprint” with ‘Graduation’ and ‘808s & Heartbreak minus Auto-Tune).

… Why do a lot of people dog ‘In My Lifetime: Vol, 1’ as a bad album/sophomore slump just because of some choice tracks (“Sunshine”, “I Know What Girls Like”). “A Million And One Questions/Rhyme No More”, “Streets Is Watching”, “Imaginary Players”, “Where I’m From”, “Who You Wit II”, “Rap Game/Crack Game”, “The City Is Mine”, “Lucky Me”… Really?? Are you serious??? Get ya ears checked!

  11. In My Lifetime Vol 1 was a good album but just the few bullshit songs on there that threw it off, I thought that was the wrong album to dedicate to Biggie.

Anyways the cover is ok. Its different I can say that much.

The tracklisting look pretty strong though. I’m looking forward to hearing the soul samples Kanye may use, I hope he do anyway.

  12. I’m not sweatin the cover. It’s absrtact and I think it’s meant to grab your attention! The tracklist looks good. Not a fan of Drake and Cudi, but more than willin to hear how the record comes out. BUT!!! I pray that this isn’t the finished tracklist! Cause it’s rumored that he has a song called Hail Hova that’s supposed to be on the album and it’s krazy!!! I think he’s goin to diss Game on it…If you haven’t heard it go to youtube and type in Hail Hova. It’ll be the 1st one. It’s just the instrumental tho, but trust me, you gon want it on the album!! LOL!
